Vitadone for Methadone Users

Hey everyone, Just thought I would give a little update of my use of Vitadone. I read many different posts and reviews online about Vitadone being really successful for those who are on methadone and experiencing difficult side effects. I didn't really believe much of it and figured Id just be wasting my money. I currently was taking a good multivitamin, B12, and Vit D. I got my test bottle of Vitadone about a week n a half ago. I started taking it as soon as I got it and no longer took any of the other ones I was taking prior. The first few days I didn't notice too much except that I was becoming more regular on the toilet. Then after about a week of using it daily I started to notice I had energy surges that I had never had before. I also am not having any problems with sweating. I had previously struggled with sweating on done and for me it was the most annoying side effect I got. It has pretty much stopped completely. I am very surprised just how much the cinnamon or whatever they use works. The other thing I noticed is that I dont have as many sugar cravings at night when I am going to bed. I used to find myself munching on chocolate or starburst when Id wake up in the middle of the night! I was a sugarholic! Which also led to be gaining 20 lbs over the last 6 months. So I hope that I can get over that as I can going to the gym 5x a week also.

But for anyone that is on Methadone and having problems with sweating, sugar cravings, fatgiue this will help. My methadone lasts longer now that Im taking this supplement too! Its well worth the 24$ for 90 pills. I dont take 3 a day like it says I have been doing 1 in am and 1 in pm. 3 is just a waste and most of it gets peed out anyway. I spent more on buying multivitamin, cinnamon extract, and other vitamins seperate. I highly recommend!

Please know that vitamins and other supplements aren't strictly watched by the FDA.  Manufacturers are required to evaluate their products through testing identity, purity, strength, and composition.  The FDA doesn't do this testing themselves and doesn't require a specific testing facility be used either.

First off people, it's Methadone!  It's not meth!  Those are two different things.  It's not done either unless you're a street user who needs to give it street names.  If you're on methadone for recovery then you should be calling it methathadone unless you need to give it a code name for when your children or other people are around as to not share personal information.  We're not junkies anymore and there's no reason to portray ourselves as junkies with these stupid street names.  Nor are we that lazy that we need to dumb it down to a one syllable word!  It just continues to perpetuate the stigma about methadone.  It's our medicine and we're legally prescribed it and it's not cool giving it street names like we're buying a bag of blow on the street corner.

Next, yes, a lot of people are dosed too high on their methadone and it plays a huge role in how they feel and causes all the main symptoms that people complain about when using methadone.  A lot of MMT patients believe that if they can't feel it, it isn't working.  They can't associate anything working without feeling some type of euphoria, burst of energy, drowsiness, or whatever it is they feel.  You're not supposed to feel sick unless you have another health issue hapening at the same time and you're not suppose to feel anything else.  It's just suppose to make you normal.  Your normal may not be in good health to begin with.

Also, a lot of people fear getting on too high of a dose.   They think it will be harder to get off of it later on and they're under dosed or they think that the first few days of feeling a bit off meant their dose was too high when in most people need a few days to a week for their body to adjust to the methadone and for the dose to feel normal so they never get to their ideal dose.

If you're having problems and/or symptoms the first thing to do is to make sure that you're being dosed a proper dosage.  Then you need to look at your own diet.  Methadone can't fix every problem in your life.  You have to make the effort to live a healthier life.  If you choose not to, you can't blame the methadone for the ailments you're having.  That doesn't mean that methadone doesn't cause people problems though but if you don't change your lifestyle you don't know the real culprit.

Lots and lots of water is a must!  Recovery or not, addict or not, we all need to drink a lot of water!  This helps with bathroom problems too.  If you sweat a lot you will need to drink even more water.  Sports drinks and even Pedialite will help too but don't drink them constantly.  Drink enough to get the electrolytes in your body otherwise they can cause more harm than good.

Vitamins and nutrients are a must too.  Most, not all, addicts don't take care of their bodies when in active addiction.  When we turn to methadone we've already wreaked havoc on our bodies for however long.  Usually we were too high or too sick or too busy to notice that damage we were doing and if we did notice, we didn't care.  We start recovery more depleted than ever and our bodies have to work twice as hard to recover as well as tolerate no longer having our DOC in our bodies which puts more pressure on our systems.

Eating vitamin and nutrient ricj foods help a lot but you really need to see a doctor to know what you need and don't need.   You can take too much of some vitamins.   Some people don't or can't get enough vitamins and nutrients from their foods and need to take supplements.  They may need a couple individual vitamins or an all in one.  This is why people find some help in vitadone and nutridone but it doesn't mean you don't have to eat and live healthier.

When I first started tapering I looked into methadone focused vitamins to hopefully make the transition more comfortable and keep me healthy. The research I did for myself lead me to not purchase it.  My clinic will obtain them for us if we ask but they will not promote them.  Our head pharmacist is very strict about not promoting vitamins due to the lack of consistant monitoring by the FDA  My counselor said to just take an all in one vitamin, which I can handle iron and actually need it so it was a good option for me but some people cannot take iron so you have to be careful.  My counselor also said that most of the feedback they have gotten has been that the user felt no difference.  She said that a few that did like it take 1 a day and get the same effects so that they could save money.

Overall, I think if it works for someone, that is great!  Even if just thinking it works is helping them then it's working.  I don't think it should be the first choice.  I don't think anyone should feel like they need to take it just because they're on methadone.  Cost wise, it definitely is easier than trying to buy all the ingredients individually but a lot more expensive than buying an all in one vitamin plus an extra or two and the ingredients aren't that different.  There is usually more magnesium in vitadone and no iron in vitadone. Iron is bad for hepatitis patients and can make people constipated if they aren't making up for it in their diet.

Vitadone also contains cinnamon.  Cinnamon is not recommended to be taken for long periods at a time which is another reason I steared clear of it.

In the end, the deciding factor is going to be if your body is lacking any of the ingredients that are suppose to help with the symptoms you're currently having.  If not, then it wont do anything for you.  If yes, can you just buy the ones you need?

No vitamin or supplement is going to be that miracle cure that everyone is looking for.  Some may get lucky while most wont.  No vitamin or supplement should ever replace a healthy diet and lifestyle.  Nor should anyone think they can avoid seeing a doctor for their problems by taking vitamins and supplements.

Also, please be careful as there are a lot of supplement makers out there that are trying to take advantage of people who are in a weaker state of mind such as those first starting recovery and even family members of addicts.  Yes, they even market these same supplements to stressed out parents who are trying to get their children help so they're not really specifically made for methadone users but basically just another type of all in one supplement.

I ended up buying a bottle of Member's Mark (Sam's Club generic brand name) Centrum Silver Women 50+ 400ct for less than $15!  They didn't have a non Silver one so I just grabbed this one and it turned out to be better recommended for methadone users anyway!  It works great for me.  Occasionally I will take extra magnesium when I know my body is low on it.

Fantastic advice. You, obviously are as far away from dumb as you can get. So impressed with your answer, I decided not to respond in a similar manner. My response wouldn't have been nearly as thorough, nor as well written. Great stuff...

I immediately thought Keegan was talking about meth as in speed until I saw the other posts. Usually I see people saying done or methadone. I just saw my counselor today and she told me I should try the vitadone because of my night sweats and chronic constipation. I am hoping it will.

I am annoyed the same way you are whenever keetab uses the word "Meth" when referring to "METHADONE"  Meth is a totally different drug than METHADONE! Some people out there who may not know that keetab is talking about METHADONE will think keetab is taking SPEED when the word meth is used.

Good morning, I read your post and I am in the same situation as far as using methadone for pain management. I broke my back working for Federal Express in 1994 and after years of opiates for pain, they were no longer working and killing my liver.  I have been on methadone for almost six years and for pain issues, it has been a blessing.  However, there is a curse that goes along with that. Not sure about your doctor, but my prescription is to the very day and I am not given extra pills for "what if" situations, like the pharmacy is out and it will be days before they come in.  The area I live in, the pharmacies do not seem to stock methadone regularly even though I have been a patient for so long. There is pretty much nothing worse than the sickness that comes from withdrawal from methadone, other than perhaps heroin.  I saw the dosage you are on and it is a very high dosage, but if you have not had an increase in three years you are correct. Your body has built up a tolerance and it will no longer work for you as well.  My concern for you among other issues which I am sure you have been made aware of is your respiratory system. Because methadone is a respiratory depressant, you must be careful about any other medications you take that fall into that category.  And please, please NO ALCOHOL PERIOD!  This combination kills more people on methadone than pretty much anything else.  I obviously do not know you,  but as someone who lives with debilitating pain every day of my life, for you to be on that dosage you must deal with pain that most people can not ever imagine.  My heart and prayers go out to you. A good friend who works with people that for what ever reason take methadone every day  highly recommends Vitadone. He always informed about anything that can help his clients stay as healthy as possible in order to have the best quality of life possible. I hope I have good results from it and for you as well. God bless you.       Granny Karen

Hi I have been trying to find information on vitadone.I am on methadone and have been for close to 5 years now.I was in a horrible car crash that left me severely injured and later addicted to pain pills. I am on a fairly high dose 160 mgs, however it is a split dose meaning in the AM I take 100mgs and about 6 hours or so later another 60 mgs.As of recent I have not been taking the split dose and taking the whole 160mg in the AM. I feel like the dose isn't right for me anymore.I've been on the same dose for 3 years so I feel like I've built a tolerance and it no longer holds me all day. Also l wasn't working when I start this treatment program but am working now and sweating the dose out at a fast rate.Part of me wants to increase the dose but the other part is worried about going higher in mgs.So with that being said,I am researching ways to make the current dose "work" for me.In my research I have come across many things some are pretty out there while other keep coming up.Here are the most popular things I have come across. Grapefruit juice, tagament or cimetidine and vitadone.I have been doing the first and second for over a year now.It is hard to say what difference it has made the only major thing it has helped tremendously with the heartburn and acid. reflux that I get from the methadone.OK so now I have seen pamphlet's at my clinic for a few weeks now and have over heard conversations about vitadone. I have done a small amount of research on it but everything I find is positive. It is $25 dollars for a bottle with 90 tablets which according to their directions is a one month supply.I keep going back and forth but have finally decided what can it hurt.Either it helps which would be well Worth the money or it doesn't so I'm out the money but know that I've made an attempt. I got the bottle today and took the 1st tablet this morning.Within halfan hour I had to use the bathroom however in more than 100% that had nothing to do with the vitadone.I will give it a few days and keep an account bof how I am feeling and report back.If anyone has tried vitadone with good or bad results please let me know about your experience.

I was on 150mg/day for about 6 years. I tried a bottle of Vitadone..never noticed a difference. I try to take a daily multivitamin. But, I really don't feel differently if I forget to get them either.
Methadone is so STRONG. I'm over 2 months out from bouncing at 34mg/day, after titrating for 2 years.
Worlds better. No fun, but worth it. I've come off oxy's, suboxine, H and methadone is far longer in each withdrawal stage. In fact, i cant type anymore. Headache is bad. Still very little strength. Its ******* BS.
Clonindine helps and seraquil(sp) it feels like forever since i felt good, but the moments i do feel good are WAY better than my best day on methadone. Emotions were messed up, wicked temper, forgetful to the point of stupid, sweating profusely. I am so glad to be done with that program..

me and my fiance are both on methadone and we noticed we have no energy to do any thing.we have not had sex in quite a few months either. i get the sweats really bad especially at work and it is really embarrassing cause i just started this job.we are going to try this vitadone just to see if it wont work for us. i would rather waste the money and know it dont work then to do nothing and keep living like this. i hate always not wanting to go any where or all the weight i have gained. he has gained just as much weight as i have. it is 40 pounds for both of us. i almost feel like going back on the morphine pills then to have to deal with what we are dealing with. we cant do it on our own so we either go off the methadone and back on the pills or try the vitadone and we both agree with trying the vitadone.

Your dosage is prob to high. I was on 100mg and had the same problem. They suggested I lower my does until it went away. Once on 60mg I noticed with a few days that im not really tired at all. I really feel no difference from being sober. People that are on too high of a dose has the sleepiness and non-motivation. I would try and lower it.

Thank you so much for your advice on the vitadone.  Seen it on the wall at the clinic and been thinking more about it.  My husband and I are both going to try it out.  The methadone makes us tired, constipated or just can't get the deed done and also have no motivation or energy anymore.  Not always so tired for him, I always am but we both just don't feel like doing anything and feel like our dose is too low and we are both on 100.  THanks for the advice.  We will try it!  Thanks again

ok, first how long have you been on meth overall? depending on length of time you stay on one dose to the next, can have an affect on detox. (despite the "come off slow b.s.") since meth is a long acting opiate it stays in the body way after you take it, ex. 1 week dose will be in the body 2-3 weeks later. in my case started 2010 dose 120mg, 2012 start detox 10mg p/mth til down to 30mg, 5mg p/wk there after and this month 2mg p/wk, get it. basically the quicker you get off the better. I know you post in jan. and i hope you are off or better, another option is Vitadom vitamin, for methadone, heroin, cocaine users, to help with horrible side effects. hope i helped

Yes Ponco it doesnt seem possible that you are ODing seeing you are coming down on your dose. Im not saying its not possible but its not likely. However when it comes to BP and hearts you should certainly not take any chances, I agree that seeing your doctor or visiting an ER may be a good option. You can never be too careful and perhaps there is something else going on? Keep us updated on what you decided to do.

I agree with Blonde.. ER perhaps? You know your body. You mentioned before stopping diuretics. You obviously have a medical condition not opiate related ( too) ... Please get checked..
I had to go first week. I listened to the people on here. I was admitted for two days. It had nothing to do with wds.. Just something happening at same time. Thank goodness I listened.
Please let us know how you are.

I know nothing about methadone; but BP meds, well, they were probably given with your high dose of methadone?
Even people not on opiates must have the BP meds monitored all the time; your body changes, so does your dosage.
So, have you told your cardiologist? How low is your HR????

You are not ODing. You are likely experiencing some mild symptoms of opiate withdrawal due to your taper.
