What do you do when your NOT taking (or thinking of taking) pills

Hello out there -
I'm wondering what everyone else does for distraction... you know NON-drug related activities?

* I like to read (mostly at night instead of rolling around & twitching)
* I run on the beach.
* I am a craft-a-holic.
* And I have 2 almost-7-yr-old-Twins that take up all and any spare time.

So what's your 'clean vice'??
;-)

* oh yeah - and I spend quite a bit of time online!

It's so hard to motivate, I know.  If you force yourself to excercise it really makes a huge difference in your psych.  I'm struggling right now with trying to get my *** to see a trainer or something. I know it works.  The pills gave me energy.  They put me in a great mood.  A good workout will do the same thing.
What about writing in a journal.  This has helped me in the past.
Again, I'm so guilty of not taking my own advice.  It's so hard to motivate without my happy pills.

Charlie.

Great post by the way!

I like to take pictures, we all do.   My son, my hubby and I all like to take our digital cameras and drive out into the country and take photos.      We did this Saturday and I actually smiled and had fun...........it was wonderful!

I also like to draw...................I haven't done anything fun in a long, long time.

GaGuy,   I love that you make mandolins!!  How cool is that!!!     My son is an avid guitar player and just picked up the violin and wants a mandolin or a banjo............

It is fun coming alive again, ya know?>

I do alot of scrapbooking.  It's fun!
I have boxes of pictures that my Mother had and gave to me.
I made some really fun books of my parents when they were younger, and of me & my brother growing up.  My Mom was from France and loved to "travel America"... she always thought it 'was amusing'.  It's fun to look back... Gosh, we had some colorful outfits!!

But I agree with Ga guy - go out and make some new memories.
I take a lot of pictures of nature; flowers, birds, trees, I've got a really neat spider that lives in my garden. -- And then I try to water color them.  I'm not too good but it's so much fun to play with color.  I did a bunch of pictures of fish last year, I'd walk down to the docks and take pictures of fish that people were taking.... They almost looked like fish,,, or scaly bowling balls with eyes!  lol.

I also collect things at the beach - wood, or wierd things that wash up and make them in to other things.  (I am a total craft-dorkita!  I have a craft room full of projects that I'm always working on. ) I made my father a really cool thing to hang his keys on out of driftwood.

Go out and walk - or explore.  I'm really finding that while I'm tapering - the more physical I am the better I feel... but maybe that's just me.  I have always been a runner.  But only on the beach - not on the sidewalks or down the side of the road. (Well on the way to the beach,,, but you know what I mean!)

Good luck!  I hope you find something you like to do.
(You could go wander around the library - there is lots of things to look at there!)

i put a sober picture of myself in my recovery folder to remind me of how thin and healthy i was. Im online a LOT and when I get bored of that I run around town and spend money. Im still trying to think of new things to do but tonight, our turtles tank got cleaned. THAT took a lot of time and energy. I also read and take lots of baths...

I have a better suggestion..instead of looking over memories...make new ones. Go buy yourself a new good digital camera and get out and take pictures. See what you're missing in the world. Take a photography class..meet new people. The world is your canvas!!

i am up for any suggestions at this point...i am tired of counting days, or looking at the clock..
When i was tapering i started looking at old photos when i was clean, and watching home tapes...i found that was helping me...But it was like looking at a different person, i always had a smile on or was laughing or just enjoying life...I can't wait until i find that person again...
I think i may try to start putting some of those pictures in albums...i having been meaning to do that..I always take alot of pictures of my kids, and they are just in boxes, so i think that is somethig i may try to do, what u think?

You know, I'm biased in my hobby...but, can I suggest that you find something that you create something at the end? Something you can look at and be proud of..and say..hey, I did that sober and it's beautiful!!

Well that is what i am trying to figure out...Good question..i use to work alot and shop...hung out with the girls and we would have alot of cookouts..Go ride in the boat and let the kids ski and fish..
That was before pills and all the way up to when i was still taking them and they were doing nothing for me except keeping w/d's away...Was losing interest in everything i liked even before i stopped..So now i find myself lost...i have not been working, nor cleaning, nor shopping....i stay on my computer alot read all kinds of things...Mostly about addiciton..I really am trying to find something i enjoy , but it is tougher than i thought...i barely have the energy to wash my hair, so realy i don't want to go anywhere looking like this...lol ---i might scare some small children..

hmm, when I got clean the last time (I'm in the process of getting clean again) I played a lot of video games...but I'm a nerd like that. Crafts are good. I like scrap booking. But what helped me the most, especially when it seemed that I just couldn't concentrate on anything, was snuggling under the covers and watching good movies, as well as just walking around places (like the mall, or the park, or a museum). Just looking around at stuff. Good thing you have kids, I bet that keeps ya busy. I know my baby sure does ;)
