Oh...and they attribute the sleepy feeling we have after thanksgiving dinner and eating lots of turkey on the large amounts of tryptophan/5htp in turkey ..also why they say drink a glass of warm milk to help u sleep. I am not sure what would happen if u ate a bunch of turkey and drank a ton of milk and u took an AD? I think a bit of that is overkill
it is a by product of tryptophan...5-Hydroxytryptophan and a building block to make seratonin. It is also found in a variety of foods such as turkey, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, bananas, eggs, nuts, wheat germ, avocados, milk, cheese and the legumes like beans and peas , and there are also smaller amounts in breads, cereals, potatoes and rice.

Yes, ask for the amino acid 5HTP. You might want to go to a GNC, more likely they will have it than a regular pharmacy.

5HTP-- this is what tryptophan gets turned into prior to being turned into serotonin in our brains. Serotonin is what is usually depleted if we are depressed and anxious.. Taking this will help with PAWS ( post accute withdrawl syndrome) or eliminate you suffering from them all together DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTI DEPRESSANT
Dosage-- up to 300mgs a day 3x DAILY ( I take 100mgs 3x per day, start with the lower dose and move up if needed)
