What is the best medication for Oxycontin withdrawal?

I've just quit using Oxycontin, I'm currently on suboxone waiting to get on methadone treatment. Which is better? Are there other alternatives? How long does the treatment last?

Hmmm....I don't personaly think that "Suboxone" is a "miricle" med. It isn't nothing more than Buprenorphine + Naloxone.Buprenorphine is derivative of thebaine and it just has effect on Mu receptors on synapse that is in our brain placed where the opoid receptors are.Now the facts and my expirience:
Buprenophine,is BY ITSELF an half opoid because it is on and derivative of poppy as other real opoids are.Buprenorphine as Methadone is half sythetic half "natural" opiate by itself. The synthetic side is how molecules are put togheder to dissove and have greater affinity to opoid receptors then Naloxone wich has VERRY,VERRY huge affinity to opoid receptors in brain. So,Buprenorphine is nothing new on market. It was there few years or decades before (pharmacy employees will tell you what accually happened) just NOW it's reregistred and has a great back in meaning of propaganda.
So,the Buprenorfine by itself is already halfagonst half antagonist cuz it's affinity to Mu receptors which are responsible for releasing an electric signal to nU receptors in braing for realeasing "so be loved" DOPAMINE.So,the molecule of Buprenorfine is big and it has huge affinity to mU receptors, and once when he is "on" mU receptor on end of nerve synapse because of it's much higher affinity and much greater size of molecule it keeps blocking(preventig) from effect of other opoids(im not sure that it would handle Methadone HCL in pure edition) and his "motivating" effect on receptors is giving more DOPAMINE in brain but not too much, just a normal (average) amount of it or a liiiiiiiitle bit more. But nothing more,or less. And the Naloxone thing in it an many disscusions for it.Naloxone is similar to Naltrexone, but it has way less half-life than Naltrexone.Naloxone is puted in med(im not sure in these facts)but as im informed and by my expirience in o,2mg then 2mg and 4mg in ratio ( 0,2:05 , 1:2 , 2:4 ,4:8)==>explanation: 1 represents the moll of Naloxone conneted with certain amount of Buprenorphine,in simple way (i.e : in tablet of 8mg of Suboxne you have ratio 4:8 it means that you have 4mg of Naloxone and 8mg of Buprenophine). The ACTUAL,or REAL LIFE THING is that,Naloxone is INACTIVE when it is dissolved under the though.
So,buprenophine in that way with its great affinity to mU recepors is "falling" on to them stimulating opoid receptor to "lunch" more dopamine in to your brain.BUT, (NOW BE CAREFUL) , Naloxone IS ACTIVE (im telling you from personal expirience and from personal research) when Suboxone is crushed and dissolved in water and injected.THEN,only then (or if u take SubOXNOE in less then 20hours after dosage >20mg of Methadone) you will experience very bad withdrawal symptoms. So,DONT DO THAT,that's my personal advice. In other hand, for those who are planing or already taking suboxone as supposed to,Naloxone is inactive to brain but it has DESTROYING effect on your liver just as Naltraxone. So long use of it is worse than long use of Methadone or Subutex just because of Naloxon in it.

Congrats on your efforts toward recovery. I found myself in a similar situation after abusing OC's 200-400mg's a day. Started using Morphine off the streets after the Doctor fell through (Got Busted) because my oxy supply shutdown. Began using 200-400mg's of Morphine just to stay working and functional. When I finally realized my situation I enrolled in the Methadone program. This really did help to structure my life but after 6 or 7 months at 135mgs of Methadone I began to realize that I was NUMB to the World. NO feelings or emotions. I tapered to about 20mgs of Methadone and just jumped out of the program. I stayed extremely sick for about 2 months and didn't feel like myself for about six months. Stayed clean for a long time and relapse came out of no where. I didn't want to go back to Methadone so I was informed that there was a drug called Suboxene that I could take and the Doctor told me with little to no side effects. Keep in mind this is when Sub. just started making its way in. I thought this was a miracle drug. I felt so good after taking it. Stayed on it for about UHHH (who knows) Realizing this was just another crutch I wanted my life back not just for me, but also for my family. Now I have been clean from Suboxene for around 10 days. The first 5 dies I thought I might die but everyday is getting better. From personal experience I have found that Suboxene had really intense withdrawls but the WDs don;t last as long as Methadone.
Please, whatever you decide, try to use short-term treatment. Suboxene is EVIL!!!!!! It can help to structure your life but you will become so dependant on it. BLLLLAAAHHHH I should know! Jump off that Suboxene in a couple days and whatever you go through, we will be here to support you. The Sky Is The Limit.

I do not advocate the use of any maintenance drug, although I understand there are those who benefits from the use of methadone/suboxone.  These are such strong opioids and the withdrawals are ruthless and long lasting.  Personally, I am more trusting of methadone, we just know more about it and suboxone is still a very new 'miracle' drug...that is being misrepresented by many doctors (at least in this area which is all I can speak for) -  I am advising against any maintenance opioid....perhaps a very quick taper from suboxone coupled with proper aftercare would be beneficial for you but I would strongly discourage getting caught up in the vicious cycle.
Please be careful and do your research in whatever you decide to do and best of luck.
Peace

I don't think it would be "harmful" if I am understanding what you are meaning?  Why don't you try half for a couple of days?  Then stop.

Hi. Methadone is a monster in more ways than one. W/d is very tough, and clinics will **** you around for hours, just like getting dope on the street. It takes months to get free of it as I just found out.Stay away from it.                karl

would it be harmfull if I tried going a day this soon without taking the sub? I'm on 2 X 2mg/0.5mg once daily for 3 days now. The last 2 days I've only taken 1 tablet.

I just finished reading your post before I seen your responce to my question. Congrats on the 11 days! Your story sounds simular to mine, only I couldn't take the DT's and seeked out help. I'm only taking half the recomended dose of suboxone as I don't like the side effects much. I feel great right now except I cant seem to sleep longer than a few hours at a time. I'm wondering if I can just stop taking the suboxone in a few more days and be done with it?
I was snorting 80-100mg of oxy a day

HI welcome to the forum.....you best bet now is to do a fast taper off the sub whatever you do dont go to methadone...the withdrawals from methadone are the worst of all the narcotics
if your on sub stay on it if you need to use it to stay clean in that case plug into N/A or A/A
or seek consoling to build up your foundation so when you do go off the sub your standing on your own 2 feet....sub will put your addiction on hold to give you a chance to do this
sub has saved many lives and the program works if you work it correctly just dont go on the sub and do nothing....nothing changes if nothing changes you only get out what you put in and recovery takes work...but in the end it so so worth it keep posting for support read the posts so you can see how sub has been for others good luck and God bless....Gnarly

i have heard that methadone is WAY harder to get off of. i have taken both. suboxone, in my opinion, is a better choice because you can't take oxy with it. methadone doesnt prevent you from doing oxy like sub. does.
have you tried just quitting altogether? trading oxy for methadone/sub. is just trading one addiction for another...
if you're already on suboxone, i would just stick to that, and make a taper plan with your doctor. the length of treatment will depend on how much you were using when you were doing oxy.
