Hi Ricart & Rosy! I struggle with mental illness. Bipolar . I'm prescribed Norco & rarely take them as directed. I have successfully gotten off for periods of 4-6 years. Then I'll go back, surgery ect.
The reason I have a team this time is the fact that my recent cold turkey landed me ( the first one 5/6 yrs ago in a Mental Hospital locked up. I was about 21 days clean & I kept having severe manic attacks, triggered by the withdrawals. Bad. Kicked the door out of my jeep, wanted to jump out of jeep onto freeway ( saved by driver & more)
In March of this yr had another nervous breakdown. (After 26 days cold turkey ) got to go. Breakfast served ! Pamela
I just couldn't taper either! The addict in me would never allow that! I had to cut all access and just be done once and for all. As Ric said it may be successful if you have someone that can hand them out to you in accordance with your taper schedule... As you said "this is another go at it" im led to believe you haven't been successful with tapering in the past. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet....and be DONE! What reasons did your doctor give for not wanting you to go CT??
It was impossible for me to taper . I had to go cold turkey with no pills around and no access. When I tried to cut down I would just end up taking more and telling myself I would get back on track tomorrow. I do have a lot of willpower but with pills in my system all I had was the desire to get high one more time and no willpower to stop it.
If you have someone keeping your pills and you have no personal access,it is doable to taper. What reasons did your doctor give for advising against cold turkey. Just keep trying to get off these and You will succeed.
Keep trying ;)
