Hydrocodone

I am trying to come off hydrocodone and find that it is difficult.  I had total knee replacement one month ago and have been reducing from 2 pills every 4 hours to one every 8 and now one every 12.  I still feel lousy after that.  How long does it take to get off totally and do I go to halving one to further get off?

Hello rogershazz, Welcome to the forum.. You did very well on your taper. at the amount you are at you can jump off You may experience a few days of restlessness and a lil loss of sleep but it will soon pass, as you can tell with a taper you feel the wd throughout. if you are more comfortable you can break them in half for a few days then reduce to one half at bed time this will help you sleep a lil then after a few days and you become accustom stop. .again maybe a few fitful nights a lil restlessness but this will pass. my husband had a knee replacement and he found walking helped a lot you want to keep the joint fluid.. also swimming is very good for no stress. ice and Motrin if you can tolerate it.. Congrats on the new knee :) it made such a difference for my husband. take care. lesa

You should be fine.  Luckily you have not became addicted or dependant on them so worry not about withdrawal.  Be easy on your knee and talk to your doctor for information about alternative ways to treat yourself if you wish.  You have been smart to not start abusing the medication..... Good Luck and give it a couple of days after you stop taking them.  Don't be afraid of symptoms that are not there.

Have u only been taking them a month? Is ur knee healed enough to be without? If the answer to both is yes then stop taking the pills right now. You may feel lousy fr a couple days but since you you only took them for a month and as perscribed you shouldnt have much trouble. Stop now before you develop any addiction issues. Good luck.
