I am a 46 year old woman who has been taking Xanax for approximately 8 years on and off.  More on for the last 3 years.  I have finally cut myself down to 1.5 mg per day.  I take to much on some days then I run out before my next prescription can be filled and I am filled with panic, sleeplessness and a total inability to function.  My doctor is aware and has been patient with me, helping me and trying to cut down on the dosage.  I notice that lately the drug makes me depressed, sleepy, moody, lethargic.  I am having a hard time with all this.  Any suggestions.  Deb

Listen, CHF, as well as many other heart problems can cause anxiety related to the heart not working properly.  Not to mention, just knowing you have a heart ailment.  I would be seen by another cardiologist first to make sure that you're heart is functioning properly.  A lot of people don't know this, but it is possible to have a disease or condition and be well.  You should have an echocardiogram among any other tests.  CHF can lead to other problems as well.  When your body isn't getting enough oxygen, or the heart is working too hard, anxiety can result.  Your valves should be checked and will be if you have that echo.  Get a second opinion, by a good cardiologist.

I'm 40 and have CHF and a mitro valve replacement and a pacemaker. I was on xanax but my doctors put me on a drug less strong and it has helped. I'm now taking a low dose of clonapam and it doesn't make me sleepy or any of the other symptoms like xanax did. The main problem with having CHF is you have to watch your salt intake and take water pills daily to keep off any extra fluids so it doesn't build up around your heart and lungs. You should let your dr know how this medicine is making you feel and there is other meds to help with aniexty.

from using it???  I'm not sure what I should do, since my doctor will most likely keep me on the Xanax for a while.

Thank you.

I am only 32 years old and have severe panic attack disorder. I have been on xanax for 12 years now. I too have had every test done on my heart and only found nothing. I take xanax and depakote daily to control my mood swings and panic. Like the others suggest, I would see a couple of doctors telling them exactly how you feel because anxiety/panic is very serious and you can feel like you are going to die. Don't give up yet, they just might be right.

SERZONE IS PRESCRIBED FOR MILD DEPRESSION.
IT IS NOT A DRUG FOR ANXIETY ATTACKS LIKE THE XANAX.
I WOULD RECOMMEND SEEING "TWO" NEW DOCTORS.
