Xanax weaning off

So I've been using them to get off opiates. Norcos. I got past the norco part, but take them everynight now to try to sleep ( which still isn't happening) I wake up every night. Anyhow my Dr. Gave me klonipon ( a lesser benzo) to get off zanex . Also prescribed me wellbutrin . Well the wellbutrin keeps me up even more! So he prescribed ambien.
So do I take a knlonopin in place of Xanax? And will ambien be harmful? I want off benzos period! Can I just take 1.? I don't want a seizure . How many does it take fir seizures? Never had one. Really wish I could cold turkey them, but I know it's better to taper. Anyone???

Klonopin is longer acting so will be easier to taper then xanax. Take klonopin and DO NOT take the xanax. I have taken ambien off and on as needed and have had no problems but you shouldnt have to take ambien if you have the klonopin because that in itself often causes drowsiness so it shoulld help you sleep. So to sum up. Take KLONOPIN as prescribed and your wellbutrin as prescribed. Do not take xanax or ambien that is overmedicating and overkill.

go by your doctor and your doctor only .You could talk to you pharmacist too. We cant give out any taper plan info here usually one would use the klonopin to taper off the xanax but the ambin on top that's alot .. the wellbutrin can keep u up at night you might wanna ask him if you could hold off on the wellbutrin till you are off the  benzos

The doctor knew you were taking the xanax right? Then when he gave you the klonipin it is to replace the xanax.so the xanax stops. The dosing is different from klonipin to xanax. The klonipin lasts longer. so you take the klonipin as prescribed . If it is .5 mg that's what it is. You are taking that to wean off the xanax. How did he say to take it?

Attabeach, you mean go to .5 only? From 2. Mg...... Won't that cause a seizure perhaps?

kim,
the klonipin takes the place of the xanax. stop the xanax. do you still have them? that doctor gave you enough for 2mg a day for 2 months. thats nuts. dont take the ambien dont even fill the script that drug does crazy things to people. hun i think you are having such a hard time getting better because you are continuing to still use. your brain cant make its own natural chemicals. you have to change your mind set about always needing pills to live your life. the sleep will return on its own, the xanax, the klonipin, the ambien are still messing with your natural endrophins and seratonin. how much klonipin did he give you and for how long?

Really, that's alot of zanex? I read forums where people take 8 a day! That's nuts. But why would my dr start me on 1 mg. I broke them in half at first .

For 2 months straight. Took it a year ago occasionally but stopped quick.
I detoxed from norcos 35 days ago. I have had to take 1 pill for pain  here and there. Less than prescribed. But not up to the 15 a day. Never again.

Depends on how long you were taking it.  Also, how long have you been off the others?

That is a lot of Xanax.  I still vote for tapering and not switching to another drug.  As mentioned earlier, taking the Wellbutrin in the am may help as that is the best time to take most AD. If you still feel like you can't tough out the sleep until it returns, please try Melatonin over Ambien.  Ambien will give you some awesome sleep, but you pay for it with the dependance.  You can to this....one day at a time!

A member made a statement I often see made in this forum.  ""The ambien on top of it is a lot in my opinion, but I'm not the doctor!  I know you're having trouble sleeping,"""   Any doctor who hasn't taken these meds and experienced the side effects they produce really isn't the one to hand out advice.    I have taken them so my experience is of more value than the doctor's.      First of all,  those addicted often think that using a different med to wean themselves off of a previous one will end their addiction to that previous drug.    It only changes the name of the new addiction.   By this doctor prescribing ambien,  he/she is only adding to the addiction.     All these chemicals disrupt and over-ride the body's own brain chemistry pushing aside what we really need in the long run.     The trouble is,  the brain senses no need to produce its own chemicals when these artificial ones are taking over.    Then the problem is when you want to end your dependency on these meds,  there's a lag time until the brain once again kicks in to produce its own.   That's the real tough withdrawal period,  a tapering balancing act of using a different med that will act as a bridge to recovery,  not add a new full blown addiction.

Dr said it last longer, therefore needing less. I took 2 mg Xanax for 2 months. Down to 1.5.
Klonipon is .5 .... I just don't want a seizure. Bit really want off. I only used for norco withdrwal but used them for too long. Now taper! Su cks. So I read you can switch directly over. The ambien is for the wellbutrin ( new AD) and can also cause seizures . I'm at a loss. Need anti depressants, want off benzo . Already hammered 1 beast, norcos.... But depression and anxiety remain.

I agree with above.  If the not-sleeping is getting to you, try Melatonin.  Ambien is just one more thing you will eventually have to w/d from. How much Xanax were you on?  I would have thought tapering off of it would be better than replacing it with something else, especially Klonipin.  It is a much older drug with iffy results.....

I completely understand!  I feared night time for a long time because I knew what was coming!  It's like you're the only person on the planet awake??  I TOTALLY get you!

It's gonna be ok!  Just hang in there!

Yes, I take wellbutrin in am after I eat. But it's strong! I wake up at 3 am everynight. Sometimes can't sleep till midnight. DR said in a few weeks that should subside.
So I am safe to take klonipine same does as Xanax, then wean off that, right? Thanks so much for your help. :)
Yeah I was / am a little afraid to take ambien, never taken it. But desperate for a good nights sleep.

Ok, listen to your doctor.  The klonopin will replace the xanax.  The ambien on top of it is a lot in my opinion, but I'm not the doctor!  I know you're having trouble sleeping, but just know that it won't last forever.  Try to have patience, keep a regular schedule, and get some exercise.  Time will help more than anything.  Also, hot bath before bed.

Can you take the Wellbutrin in the morning?  Maybe that would help some?
