Trying to wean.. what to expect?

I have been reading here for a while, and finally decided that I need to do something about my recent (about 6-7 months) addiction to Perc.  I have been taking 6-8 10mg (the big yellow ones) percs daily.

I realized after reading here for a while, that if I continue the way I am, I could really get myself in a lot of trouble.  I am hiding everything from everyone.  I am married with 2 kids and shouldnt be doing this.

I am trying to wean myself to just a few a day before I go cold turkey... by weaning, what should I expect?

Thanks in advance for all advise.  Thanks!

I did a fast taper, then c/t, and i used clonodine...My advice to you is have a plan, get honest, and read and post as much as you can.

I still cant believe that I let this happen to me.  My dad was addicted to Oxycontins for years, and the family never knew until he decided that it was time to stop and we all helped get through the withdrawls.  I saw all the horrible pain that he went through.

I started taking the Percs 6-7 months ago because I was having some major teeth issues.  My insurance had already been up and I couldnt afford out of pocket. A co-worker had given me 60 7.5 Percs that she got from a wrist surgery and never used.  That's all it took.  I started taking them for the pain and then enjoyed the high... and now here I am.

I am also trying to figure out how to stop.  I really want to try without having to tell anyone in my family. I was told that it probably is good if we DO tell somebody to make sure of your success.  Support system is great and doctors can explain all the side effects etc.. associated with the withdrawals.

7.5 is good. This is just a suggestion to taper down. Take the 7.5s as if they were the 10s. (6-8/day) do this for several days then drop dow 1 or 2 pills and stay at that dose for several days. Just keep doing this tapering off slowly. Let your body adjust. If it is really too much. Add 1 more for a day or two. Then continue to reduce.
If you have a Dr to go to, discuss this with them. Addiction is way more common than you think. They are familiar with it. This is actually the best advice. Get them on board so you both can come up with a plan for you. Good Luck.

Yes, I do have a supply of Percs, but they are the 7.5.  I have 10 at this very moment.

You can excpect for it to be hard and alot different than you have been feeling lately taking the 8-10.  But I think it is better to taper than just go from high dosage to C/T!  I was taking like 4-5 80mg oxycontin in each day at my worst.  Right now I am tapering myself.  I have eight 7.5 vicodin and I am trying to get to the 28th.  I have to take half a pill four times a day, or 1 two times a day. I know me and 2 doses just wont do it.  So good luck to you with this. either way you will go through withdrawl, but with tapering at least it wont be as severe.

Hey welcome to the forum. I am a cold turkey girl, but from what I have heard ...if you go from 8 pills down to 2 pills you will have alot of withdrawal symptoms.  You might want to try tapering a little slower or you might as well go cold turkey. It is slow here because of holiday, but others should reply with some good taper methods. It's really great you are recognizing you problem after 7 months. The sooner the better.  I waited almost 5 years and it has been very difficult. So do this now before it gets worse. Keep reading on this forum. The more you know the better you will do.  Keep posting let us know how your doing.  Best of luck and Happy Holidays.   Mary
