are all pain docs insane

after telling pain team about my problems with perscribtion drugs   and being perfectly honest with them before surgery.telling that i do better with pot for pain relief.she told me how dangerous it was.i stopped smoking 3 days before operation no withdrawal.she didnt even know pot is legal in the state of ny.so they cut down my pain meds to 3 days when they said i would be in surgical pain for 6 weeks.they said go to pain doc but its the weekend cant get appointment till next friday.without pain relief you cannot heal. then they  said since i wasnt on pain meds i wont need them.i fought hard to get off pain pills and stayed off them.i got a 6 in scar down my spine and i got treated like garbage.it appears you have to lie to them.they asked me to do survey about my care at the hospital.i told them the head of pain managment was incompedent and should be fired.they like there number 1 hospital  rating.shock i was treated differntly because i was honest with them.

I am so sorry. A year ago in July my daughter crushed her left hand & got compartment syndrome. By the time they did surgery she had nerve damage. Last Monday her son accidentally slammed the car door on the same hand complete repeat. At 4:30 Friday morning they took her to emergency surgeon. She has 2 long incisions on the back of her hand, one along the thumb, one down from her little finger & two in her palm. Anyway they dismissed her yesterday morning and something happened to the prescription at the pharmacy & they won't fill it can't get any doctor on the phone. She laid in bed writhing in pain for 6 hours before we got her some weed. We live in Texas so it's illegal no matter what. BUT we prescribe methadone, OxyContin, & so on...like candy. Makes no sense.
Praying for you.

So glad to hear that you are doing okay. Why don't you start a new thread and give it a new title. This one is getting a bit lengthy and some people may pass over it. Hang in there. the best is yet to come!!!!!

Do you see your surgeon tomorrow?
Did you call the hospital and complain?
Post opiate they need to treat your pain  for at least 6 weeks.
That is standard protocol.

Just found out that Dr.'s can no longer phone or fax sched II scripts- they must handwrite each one and the patient must pick them up.

I am horrified, and ashamed as a nurse at what you've been through.

PLEASE keep records of EVERYTHING, every call you make, every appt, any correspondence you have with any of the medical staff.

They absolutely have an obligation to treat your pain.  They haven't done that yet, IMO....and the comments made to you were SO unprofessional and inappropriate.

When you finally get back on your feet and start healing, I'd really recommend seeking out a legal consultation to see if maybe you have cause for an action.

Best to you, I REALLY hope things get better for you and I'm so sorry for what you've gone through, it's just not okay.

WTF?????

i do NOT understand these doctors and their thinking.  15 pills????
aughghgghhgghghhg
if i am this frustrated, i can only imagine how you and your wife feel.

i would sit in the doctor's waiting room until i got help.  heck, they should NOT have even done the surgery if they were not planning on helping you with post op pain.

this may be against the law.  i would seek a free consultation if i were you.  they should have never done such a painful surgery if they didn't plan on helping you afterwards.
in some states undertreating pain is illegal and considered malpractice

I completely understand....I feel like that with the doctor that did my knee replacement.  I will not have the other one done....no way.  And your absolutely correct, you can't dwell on that...focus on getting better.  I think doctors are so scared to be responsibile for a lot of things, they are afraid of lawsuits....so they will and can go to extremes.  And I think you'll be better in less than two weeks...bodies heal fast...get better soon

That's what they do, sell you surgery like a car.....I agree.  I am so so sorry to hear about your painful surgery....I have never heard of mailing out a script unless you authorized it..so I think so,domes feeding a line of bs....have your wife go to the doctors office first thing Monday morning and get your script.  I think that's gonna be your best bet.  If you call the doctors office can just brush you off.  And, I think if your wife is your advocate then you'll get what you need.....no doctor wants to deal with a mad wife.  No way....

Can you ice your insision?. I'll be praying for you.  Too bad medicine became too legal, you know what I mean?  Nobody wants to take responsibilities when they drop the ball...and wow have they dropped the ball on you.. Prayers, bama

in new york you have to have perscription in your hand.they are not allowed to call in those kind of drugs.yes they gave me dilutin on a pump i could push it every 10 minutes.it was very effective.i was on that for 24 hours.then they put me on 15 mg morphine.then i tried to go down to 7,5 and that did nothing without the diludin.they gave me the perscripion as if they did.too many docs .would have been better if the surgin directed traffic.they gave me a reqular doc a pain control doc a social worker a rehap doc and a pa for spinal patients.that federal express never came today.i am lucky i have a bottle left from when i quit 490 days ago.the number 1 hospital in the country and i have know one to talk to.they sold me the sugery like they would sell  a used car.after last night i am not worried about an addiction problem.i am just trying to get through the couple of weeks till the  pain subsides.i will be ok i promise you that.maybe they have a bad system but the surgin seemed so good maybe i will be better anyway

Mail you the script?  What kind of BS is that?  They need to CALL in the scrip to a local pharmacy, or if they can't they need to get you in to see someone on Monday.  End of story.  I know you had a bad experience at the hospital, but if you go to the ER and they see your medical records and the state you are in THEY MUST do something to help you with your pain.
Please Butch, this is dangerous.
I, too have had a vasovagal response to pain on numerous occasions.  The last one being 2 months ago when I went to the hospital and refused pain meds because I was scared of IV pain meds.  My whole body went into shock and I started shivering uncontrollably and I passed out.  The nurse gave me 3 mg of IV dilaudid even though I'd refused and I was almost immediately better.  It was the first time I'd had proper pain relief in 6 months.
This was when I finally gave in and started taking my pain meds as prescribed.  I had been taking 1/3 of my recommended dose because I was afraid of getting too hooked.  Stupid.  Essentially I was putting drugs in my body but not enough to actually help.
The doctor and nurse in the ER lectured me for a good half hour.  They told me getting hooked again should be the very least of my worries.  As it should be yours.  You can deal with getting off once you are healed and ready to get back to life.  And while pot can be wonderful for certain kinds of pain such as neuropathic pain, it is not sufficient for post spinal surgery pain.
Please, I know they treated you shoddily but you need help.  Don't be proud.  Get help.
Bless-
Lu

Oh my friend, I am so sorry for what you have been through.
It is a shame that you were treated in such an inhumane way.
Try to stretch out to 240 mgs to last longer than one day if possible.
Can you ice the area also?

I too have had vasovagal responses to pain. One was in January of this right before I had my hand surgery. Extreme sweating, dizziness, couldn't hear, couldn't see, couldn't speak, then I passed out. When I woke I was then freezing, shaking, had a seizure and passed out again.
Then I just had one in July when I broke my  ankle. The extreme sweating dizziness, couldn't see, speak or hear, then I passed out.
We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Our bodies natural response to the pain and trauma.
I pray that you will get some rest, continue to heal, not have to deal with all the extra anxiety this is causing. It certainly isn't conducive to your healing.
Prayers and hugs,
Debbie

P.S. how would that cop know if the marijuana was recreational or for medical use? Such weird phrasing.  I wouldn't worry too much though...we live in Alabama..they believe in only one thing here when it comes to Pot....Jail!  My hubby was a user for most of our marriage (not me though...I don't like the stuff).  Our doc knew he used for anxiety purposes and even said he felt it was healthier than benzo's.
We had 911 in and out of here last year...there is no way they didn't smell the residue in hubby's man cave.  Nothing ever happened.  Of course he's quit now due to his lung cancer...we don't know what effect Pot has on something like that...so better safe than sorry.  I think hubby misses it.

I'm glad that you got something for the weekend but didn't that surgeon understand that you can't get in with your pain mgmt doc until Friday?  We were told by our surgeon that Joe's partial lung removal is the most painful surgery out there...if that is close to true and they said that about yours then I know how much pain you are in and it is ridiculous that they expect you to recuperate like that.

Do you have someone with you who has the right to speak on your behalf?  If so you need to rest and they need to get on the phone first thing Monday morning.  What I would do is call every single doc my hubby has until someone did something. In fact, I did do that once....when he was in Chemo.  Our GP doc was out sick so I called every single one hubby has until someone said OMG come pick up the scrip...he's in too much pain to do without.

If worse comes to worse you may need to bite the bullet and go to an emergency room though I understand why you don't want to.

Will be praying for you!

You won't get arrested. The medical and 'corrections' industries are about the money. It costs money to put you in jail and NY has plent of real criminals that need a bed. They are just trying to pressure you into the status quo, which happens to earn the system the most money. They may try to fine you, that actually benefit them. Relax about getting arrested, they aren't gonna tie up courts for your case.

I'm not sure if you read the social forum thread, "There shoukd be a law suit." It's real long, so it might help you pass time and not feel alone in this. Anyway, take care of yourself and try not to stress. Hope you heal up quickly.
