being alone

my bad times occur when i am alone. left to my own devices, i make poor choices. i am seriously thinking of trying to get a laptop just so i can come on this site from anyplace. my husband is a long haul trucker and if i could figure out a way to stay on the road with him for 2 or 3 weeks i think i could get over this HUMP! he has no addiction problems and has been trying so hard to help me. drove me to the nearest NA meeting 45 minutes away, even sat in on open ones. he said it helped him get a much better handle on what i go through. i am the only addict in his life as far as we know. 46 is kinda old to need a babysitter. i am so full of knowledge about this whole ride. gotta control my actions. lately all i have done is a handful here and there. other days i try to find valium or xanax. it's better than it was, but it's still an elephant on my chest.

well..whatever u can do to keep ur mind off of all of this then do it..seems as tho u r like me and do better when ur focus is elsewhere...do u drive?  there r meetings around the clock and if u need the number then it is in the healthpages..also AA may be closer to u and it is an option even tho u r not an alcholic..i go to AA/a ladies group..mixture of pill users and drinkers there....is there a gym near by to keep u busy as that has helped me with cravings alot...posting here helps as well...as u know.....but doing a handfull of pills here and there aint gonna cut it as before u know it u will be back in the dark place u r trying to get out of...be safe and keep posting

One word - exercise!  Can you do this?  If you can't exercise, find another healthy substitute for your unspent time alone.  The only way I succeeded was to set other healthy goals and works towards them.

It's OK that your 46 - I'm 47 and stopped when I was 46 :-)

No age limit on having issues

Idle time is the devils playground......Try and get out and take a walk.  I cleaned cupboards, closets anything i could just to stay busy.  Dont worry about the age thing....I was 47 when i cleaned up!!!  You can do it too!!!!  Glad to hear you have a supportive husband..........stay strong      sara

after i found myself in aa most of my bad times were when away from recovering people in the begining. me left with myself and four walls was pure torture. why not go back to drugs and alcohol, that thinking seemed reasonable. with in weeks i found myself involved in recovery. meaning i was no longer alone my thoughts and actions revolved around helping myself by helping others. and that got me to where i am now, pretty ok with me now, but it takes time to get results there is no bouncing back and forth one day using the next not. that only made my head more nuts. find people who found folks whom have been through the crazy days and go with there suggestions. Think about AA or another group. by myself i make me worse
