benzodiazepine?

Are you suggesting to use another addictive substance to go through withdrawl of opiates? Where's the sense in that?! Benzodiazepines are terribly addictive and its VERY easy to become addicted to them. As a matter of fact, the withdrawl from benzodiazepines is a much longer process and can take years for the withdrawl symptoms to go away. I'm not one for abstinence and definitely believe that meds have their place, however, what you're suggesting, esp. without citing the risks of using benzodiazepines to come down from opiates is like telling a meth addict to use cocaine and GHB to combat the withdrawl symptoms. You don't site any evidence that your "recipie" is effective or has long-term success.

This is exactly what my dr. told me.   Three or four tranzene, cut into quarters, and taken throughout the next three or four days.  This will help keep you calm while detoxing.  He did not say go buy a bottle and have a good sleep!  Come on and get with the program, everyone knows they are addictive, you don't take em for any long length of time.  Same with the Clonidine, my dr. only prescribed 12 of them for me. I am so grateful I had them and a little tranzene to help me with my detox.  I am clean since Feb.16.   This isn't easy but it is doable.

Benzos are used by Dr.s to help relieve the w/ds so there is a place for meds in w/d They also use a med called clonidine its a blood presure med and it helps alot if used right and under the care of a Dr. Remember most of us addicted to pain meds got that way by NOT DOING WHAT THE DR SAID he said take one every 6 hrs there small so i will take 2 every 4 hrs see what im saying. Yes they gave us the meds it was our fault we took them wrong. We are addicts because of what we have done not what someone else did WE are ourown worst enemy. There has never been any kinda addict that had not taken the frist pill or there frist drink!!

yeah, unfortunately, the good ol' thomas recipe did nothing for me.....i had to find my own formula....which was nothing short of riding it out while trying to find something to help me sleep and knock me out (little pieces of valium for a week will  NOT make you addicted!)......and some hot baths to alleviate that "chilled" feeling....and drinking lots of water.....i couldn't each much of anything (dropped LOTS of weight), but i found i could somehow manage to keep down those Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes, so i would drink those every now and then in addition to the water.....headaches were REALLY bad for me but no otc med could touch the pain....so i just suffered.....and still am!  i wish you well.....God speed through your recovery.....    ~kim

it does state that people may need another type of drug for detox..i did use small pieces of valium and did not become addicted to them...in rehabs they use librium for alcohol wd/a benzo and also in many narc rehabs a mild benzo is used...there is not scientific evidence to support the thomas recipe..it is simply a guide/helped me but it may not help u
