can I detox myself with taking over the counter medication? If so what can I take.. I've been using heroin on and off. I want to stop. I don't want to go inpatient cause I can't afford it. I'm an owner operator which means if I don't work I don't get payed. I have some methadone and I'm not sure if that works like I was told (use it for 3 to 4 days) and I should be able to kick the habit of dope. Can anyone tell me if its true or what method can someone recommend. I only ask for the honest, simple way and painless. Thanks

I never did heroin,but I know about methodone.You won't be able to use methodone for 3 or 4 days and then just kick the habit.Grant you methodone might help to lessen your w/ds depending on how much H you used and how many mgs of methodone you take.Please keep in mind that methodone is a very addictive drug also.I'm wondering if the person who told you that you can use the methodone like that isn't still on the methodone themselves.I personally have never heard of that.My advice to you is to do some research and form a better plan.Research the methodone.I've got 40 days clean from it and trust me the w/ds are a long h***.I fear you've been really misinformed.There are alot of people here who have or who are overcomming an addiction to H.Please don't take the methodone until you've talked to one of them.My personal opinion is that methodone is never the solution .You will suffer getting off the H ,but those of us who have used the methodone for a time have suffered greatly also.You don't just walk away from it.My fear for you is that you will take the methodone for 3 or 4 days and then want to continue to take it because it helped to lessen the H w/ds or you will take it for the 3 or 4 days and stop then be thrown into w/ds,and not be mentally prepared for it and go back..There is no drug out there that can cure your addiction,only you can do that.There are drugs out there that can assist you in overcomming your addiction,but you need to make sure what you're getting yourself into.There are much better solutions out there rather then methodone,please stick around and explore your options.Best of luck to you. Simple and painless?? There's no such thing.  You gotta be real tough to kick a heroin addiction, or any opiate addiction for that matter.  Be prepared to suffer--but its worth every second of it in the end.

Unfortunatly there is no such thing. I have never used heroin, but I have seen and heard others at my meetings that have used this.

As goingtomarket stated, check some of the health pages for some ideas on how to help alleviate the symptoms. Nothing can stp you from having some withdrawal, and it miht be a rough 5 days, but you will survive. Make sure you drink plenty of liquids.

Also, find an NA meeting. it is free, and will help you tremendously. Don't try and beat this alone.

No drug on the planet can cure your addiction. It may help the physical symptoms, but the mental side is even harder to curb. Some type of support group (meetings, family, friends, counselors) something,  is needed to beat this.

I don't do heroine so I'm not really sure what's the best way. Methodone is a treatment for it, but you have to know how to use it. Methodone is also very addictive, and I've heard that it can be worse than heroine. I think that for anyone to help you, they're gonna have to know how much you're using. You may be able to detox at home, but it's gonna be hard. I dont know if this is good advice or not, but I would say get a hold of some vicodin, and just take enough to keep the withdrawals away. Then take less and less. You said off and on, so have you been on a binge or do you just use when you crave. If you dont get withdrawals, then it's just mental. You just have to be strong. Some have done the methadone to get off of Heroin but both are highly addicting. I have heard that the withdrawals from heroin last a lot longer than a few days. Keep posting.
