co-codamol withdrawal - compared experiences

Hi
I am on my eighth day of coming off co-codamol. I'm finding it very tough and wondered if there is anyone who is going through the same who would like to compare notes, offer mutual support, suggestions, help etc.
All good wishes
Roger

Hey roger, what you're feeling is 100% normal. You need to remember you took the pills daily for a year,so it's going to take some time. Don't give in,we all have them thoughts of if I just take one I'll feel better. But Hun,there is no such thing as just one. The lethargy, deppression and sleeplessness hang on the longest. But everyday you will heal more and feel a bit better. I know it's hard but try pushing yourself. I would go for really long walks until I felt like I was dragging my butt. Wearing yourself out also helps with the sleep. Try to keep a healthy diet and get whatever type of excercise you can in. It helps with the lethargy. Like I said I just walked. I'm not one for push-ups etc...keep posting here and don't give up :))

Dear Spider, Chrissy and Tuck

Thank you all for your kind and supportive messages.
This is day 10. The way I'm feeling now is best described as; lethargy, general discomfort in the digestive system, very low mentally, no energy.
The weariness is the one I'm finding most difficult, and I'm starting to wonder whether this is still the after-effects of co-codamol.

The background is that I took them for lower back pain and a bout of quinsy, but continued to take them long after. They are the 30mg ones and I would take 2 - 4 a day, so not a huge number. Been taking them every day for at least a year.

I have just been made redundant and the need to find work is preying on my mind, but I am really not in a good enough place right now. I really want to stay off these pills and yet I know that they would lift my mood 10-fold if I started again. I have been tempted.

Once again, I would be so grateful for your thoughts and the benefit of your experience - should I still feel this way? Somehow I need to feel better than this.

Thank you, your support is invaluable,

Rog

Hey roger!  Welcome.....I have experience with codeine .........how much were you taking, how long etc. will all play a role in withdrawal.  I was taking codeine for 27yrs.  Yup, ridiculous, I know.  I'm 629days free right now though so....tzzzzaaallllgooood!

Day 8 ....grats! Huge grats! IMO, you've made it past the worst of the wd's ...now it's mostly a head game, "battle", if you will.  Don't get me wrong, the body will prob still feel like shite for a time indeed, (who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones and fly through)...and your addict brain will be sayin....oh Roger, see, you can't live normal without me man!  All this will pass within TIME.  We are all unique in our circumstances so no two peeps will share exact experiences.  Be kind to yourself when you don't jive up with your neighbours success timeline, and let your body follow it's own healing regime.  That way you avoid feeling bad when you seem not as far ahead as some of us and you also won't feel overconfident to the point of cocky (putting sobriety in jeopardy) if you are exceeding your neighbours success timeline.  Hope that makes sense.  Yikes..too much coffe this morn. Lol

Symptoms for me that lasted the longest were :

Not sleeping...ughhh still a prob but ...I am a dinosaur so...ya know ...ol peeps never sleep.

Sweating.  I never friggin sweat my whole life!!  I'm still sweating since I stopped.

Restless legs...I exp it more like restless body. Lol.  Still have it.

Runny nose and coughing.

Ohhhh...bowel issues.....hmmmmm. I'll leave that one to your imagination.

...all being said...it gets better and better every day.  It doesn't always seem that way but even when things are really tough for me..I imagine the same probs I'm having and add on the hellish addiction I was invested in and then BAM...reality hits me right in my brain muscle, hahaha and it's like.....NO F*CKIN WAY would it be any better if I took some pills right now.

They have a saying here..(sorry angels if I'm quoting wrong)....."one is too many and 1000 is never enough"

Look forward to hearing your story Roger, "spill, so we can dish" lol

There are lots of things to do to ease your discomfort through detox.....other peeps here will help give you the 411 on the importance of aftercare.  I'm not against ...I just haven't been able to get to meetings myself, but I've seen they are literally "life-savers" for many,

Have a good day Roger, hope it's sunny where you are cuz right now it's foggy and rainy here....waaaaaa, of course it's a "long weekend" why wouldn't it be raining and cold?

Peace out. ((((8)))) spider...(Janice) hugs

I know there are quite a few on here detoxing from codiene right now. I did the oxycodone detox back in November. I remember my first week being so rough. Constant sneezing,so cold but always sweating,a weird cough. Restless legs, not being able to sleep and when I did it was only an hour if that and I always dreamed of my pills. I took a lot of hot baths in Epsom salts. Helped my chills and rls,I drank a LOT of water and gaterade. Took immodium for my tummy. It helped a lot. Didn't eat for almost two weeks though. Just a bit of pretzels and yogurt here and there. No apatite. Also took melatonin. It didn't work at first but by week two I started to feel it and slept a few hours. What are some of your symptoms and how are you coping? Congrats on quitting btw!!
