Could cough syrup, containing codeine, addiction be fatal enough to lead to death of a person?

I know of one of the two djs but i think he died of a heart attack right? Cough syrup makes you susceptible to all kinds of heart probs...But i meant coulda person who has been having a copious amount of it frequently over years end up dying at some point due to deterioration of health and immunity or brain damage etc? i came to hear  of a person who died of brain damage after 5 years of cough syrup addiction. I dont know the explicit details as the info was a little blur,a friends friend being the source, so i was skeptical about believing it...corex allergy is new to me and sounds rather fatal

HELL YEAH! That can kill you just like the pills. Many rappers have died of using syrup. Look up dj screw or pimp c. Both have died from it.

I am not a doctor, but I do believe you can overdose on it That could cause death. My mother-in-law ended up in a mental hospital after taking it for a bad cough it turned out that she was allergic to codine.
