deciding to quit

I take oxycodone everyday. I have been taking around 40 mg a day for almost 6 years now and I want off. I take two 15mg a day. 1/2 in the morning in the afternoon and two halves at night. I want to know how severe this is and how to go about tapering the right way. I have tried quitting cold turkey and cannot do it. Any advise would be a great help. Thanks

You can do this.  You were on for a long time but your intake is low so don't be frightened.  REading these posts and finding out how bad it CAN be is daunting but remember most of that is do to high amounts and long use.  You will be uncomfortable but if I can do this so can you.  Pick a day and stick to it.  Over time it will just get worse if you don't.

Praying for you-

Hi shalin, if you have an ongoing supply you should be okay to start your own taper. People who say just tell your doctor do not realize that is only good as the doctor is as a human being and his real world knowledge. You risk being cut off, doctors do not want the responsibility of an addict at times. Sometimes you can get cut  off just to cover his ***. Doctors thinking. Carefull judgement on asking him for a taper. Of course a good doctor is the way too go!!!

I say if all is well in health and you are functioning person as it sounds.
Go down 2MGS a day at a time, and stay at that new drop level for 4 to 7 whole days. Keep a carefull log. A 90 day taper is 90 days divided by the level days you stay (5 days) for example. If you use 5 day levels to change your dose down 2MGS it will take 18 levels of 2 MG drops to get off in ninety days. Do not think in terms of days but in terms of levels. Test your self for the bodies response to a 2 MG drop and then calculate your own taper plan based on your learning expirience with that drop. You can extend your level days out to 7 days or longer before a level drop. Just extends the days but as I said keep thinking in terms of levels and not days. Each level drop maintained is is a victory! Keep yourself on a regular schedulee you like best, and you will see a pattern develop and thus a routine of where you know which times will be worse than others. Like a work week and weekends kind of thing. Use alka seltzer and goodies powders for body pain. Goodies or simalar are at Walgreens. At the end the percentage of drop will become a much larger percentage part of your reduction in total daily doses and you may want to go down to 1 MG drop at each level starting at around 15 MG a day when you get there. Be patient do not rush. You are free to adjust up or down as tolerated and needed, just make sure you do average a drop in medication as you go. And do not go into a severe withdrawl and try and dose yourself out of it, go slow and be patient and you will not get overly sick. You will feel crumy and uncomfortable so count on that.

Just execute and it is a done deal, look around for a back up doctor or have some plan b if this does not work. Keep seeking answers as you go and modify things as needed by you!!!!.
Sincerely Bart

If you don't really need it anymore, then tell doctor you want off! They should work you a tapering schedule. Remember docs love pills. I told mine to taper me or I was going to another doctor. I try not to take anything I do not have to have. Good luck.
