Any advise for the first 24 hrs

I have been taking various pills...vicoden, norco, oxys (stopped those last year) for over 20 yrs.  It started with a car accident.  I have continued to take 4-6 norcos three times a day along with a muscle relaxant Soma 3 three times a day. This has been my dosage for the last year or so.  As most of you already know...the doctors do not prescribe that amount and I find the rest from "friends" I know.  I have tried to stop before but have always gone back to popping pills.  It always started innocently enough, I get a small amount from the doctor. And my tolerance increases so I start looking elsewhere.  Unfortunately, they are too easy to find.   2 of my "friends" are at work.  I have just received a promotion...I have too much to loose.  I have been spending half my paycheck to satisfy my "needs".

Now you know my story...how do I stay clean.  I have quit before, but I have always gone back.  I want this to be the last time.  I took my last dose yesterday morning. I have two grown children.  I told my oldest (25yo) that I was ready and she was very happy for me, but she doesn't believe me because of my past.  I am in the beginning of WD.  I have to work; I can't afford to take time off, especially since I just got a promotion.  Any advise??

HI.....first off you need to taper off the soma's no c/t there as for the norco you can jump ship
its going to be tuff but many of our members have worked threw withdrawals pick up some imodium your going to need it the runs will drive you crazy at work...in your down time at home a hot bath goes a long way in releaving the symptoms this is 1/3 physical and 2/3 mental be ready to fight on both fronts ....attitude is everything wile doing this do your best to keep a positive attitude the whole time get comfortable with the saying
''you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile'' you will understand as you go threw it
I truly believe this is a battle one or lost in ones own mind...be ready for the mental part of this it is often the more difficult to deal with....rent some movies your probably not going to sleep for the next few days it will give you something to do will up all night....if you believe in God prayer is helpful...when it 3am and your up shaking he's all you got
try not to let fear into the equation it is always worst in our minds then it turns out to be
hang in there where all out here to help and we all want you to succeed this is new to you but not to us keep posting for support good luck and God bless....Gnarly

the only thing i worry about is the facts about the soma i think you should maybe start another thread and ask if anyone has quit soma cold turkey someone out here should have some input that would help cause that's the only thing i don't have no experience with that i took a couple a few time but vicodin that was my DOC..so post that and let's see what the other member's feedback on the soma's is...god bless...Jeff

Well that was an eye opener.  I don't have the option to detox with medical supervision.  Reading that makes me feel that stopping the Soma is almost impossible for me.  I have told my other half about the symptoms so he can keep an eye out for me.  The only option I would have would be the emergency room.  I'm still going to stop these pills.

And I thought that the norcos would be the hard thing to stop. I have tried NA in the past and it just did not work for me. This site takes anonymous to another level.

Jeff thanks for your advise.  Renee

Soma addiction is extremely dangerous. Addicts must be detoxified under the supervision of qualified medical professionals without exception. Attempting to quit using Soma without medical supervision could result in severe seizures and other serious complications.
