getting off oxycontin

I have been on oxycontin for 3 years.  I injured my back during a car accident.  my doctor started me with vicodin.  it worked for about 1 year.  then it stopped working.  so my doctor changed medication to oxycontin 80 mg 4 tab per day.  I would never abuse the drug, because for one reason another, it would never get me high.  It worked great for my back pain and the shooting pain going down my legs.  There were times when i throw up black stuff like blood.
I was a pilot for an airline but i had to stop flying.  I have my own business but with the economy, its been hard.
I wanted to get off oxycontin one day.  I was tired of taking medication everyday.  i tried to stop and all hell broke out.  I was sick. severe pain, bp high, could not eat, and the pain was so bad that i wanted to end my life. I tried subutex.  i got sick. tried suboxon, got sick, ended up in the er.  I need your help guys!  I can't seem to get off oxys.  Are there any other method that can help me?  I wanted to try the weismann method but it cost $21k which i do not have.  please, i need help.  I am addicted to these pills.  please help.

I really meant to comment Frank and actually had written a couple the past two days but got diverted both times. Jcentron, your not alone here even though the responses are light. Oxy is a bear to walk away from and I have tampered with 3 phases of wd's concerning them. I'm surprised you found no benefit in going the "subs" route, but we all are different. In my opinion, any type of taper is best when dealing with oxy wd's. I cold turkeyed not of choice back in April. It was horrible. After surgery in June  , Igot to 3 weeks away from them after doing a fast taper with percocets but due to nerve damage, I had to backtrack as it overwelmed my ability to out think the pain. That second round was far better than the cold turkey. Now I am not saying it is smiley better as it still s**ks, but I could tell it wasn't so mentally terroizing as the first time. I was also at disadvantage that first time as I was not educated a to what to expect..I can say this though. Life was getting better after 3 weeks in the depression part which constantly harrass'es us..Some of the thoughts you are having are normal, believe me my friend. You can't see or feel anything that could cobnvince you things can get better..Remember this..It is the afteraffect of the oxythat is affecting your thoughts. Those thoughts will change..Have faith..Frank and I are very close on this subject and have been for a number of months..Keep bouncing your thoughts off of us and we will give you the best that we know as we all fight thru this nonsense...Btw, I'm 54 with 4 kids.Sindle dad at that..I can relate to anything going on in and around the house when trying to deal with kids and these crazy pills at the same time..For support. Finding some positives to replace those negative thoughts that invade us...Keep close to the forum and talk with us if anybody..I bounce around some with days being I am not vocal but I am never too far away..This can be done and you can get your good feelings back. Its just going to take some time to work thru all this..Your new friend David :)

Glad you came back, that's what it takes. Knowledge is power, right? I'm absolutely amazed at the lack of response on your post? Your situation seems so familiar I could have lived it. I'm not the best by far on this forum. By the way I think that's exactly how I found this site. I lost it for awhile and was beside myself, not knowing how to find it again! It's a great place but I don't hang out here often, we have  been moving across the land from Ak, to Az and it's a b****! Especially with a terrible back and needing badly to find a new doctor. The war on drugs has landed near me. The oxy manufacturer has recentlly changed it's formula, from one that was working well to one that's not. Many people with side effects, me included. I'm not that savvy about computer's or the internet. But type in something like " oxy formula change, side effects. That shoule get you started?  You may need to post a new question, using your nickname to get some results? If you keep comin to the forum, you will get a lot out of it! I'm not a joiner either. I don't even know personally anyone else that takes oxy, but I have built a friendship form this site that is very rewarding. For me it is great to relate to someone else that understands how bad this is. The little nuances like constipation, or the feelings when you run out to soon. Or how horribly sick you can be, and never intentionally became an addict. I've never snorted smoked shot up or nuthin, Just taking as directed has aquired me the same addiction as if I'd set out to do it on purpose. Maybe even worse cuz, like you said above, when hydro's weren't strong enough, they gave me more. When Methadone wasn't working well enough, why heck just get out the old scrip pad and try something else and just in case that ain't doing the job, here's some breakthu's, for ya. See ya next month, hope yer feelin better.....Sound familiar?? Only on the forum.. good luck, it's a fine mess we've gotten ourselves into, eh?   Frank

Thank you so kindly for your comment.  Your comment made me think twice about where i'm at in my life.
I am 47 years old with 2 kids and wife.  I live in an exclusive small town.
so far my life has been very good.  but to stop taking oxycontin has been hell! I have tried going cold turkey, subutex and some other methods.  Subutex did help.  but I would always get a migraine headache.  I just wish all would go away.  this is affecting my life to the point where i just want to take off to another country or even thoughts of taking my life.  I am lost.
I never join any type of community or the web community.  One day during work, i typed in "how to get off ocxycontin" and there is where i found this forum.  I have not done anytype of research yet.
any advice? to you and the forum

This is only an opinion! And first of all good luck in your endeavors.  I take oxy, for pain, it's a good med and a horrible monster for some. Your pain level if it takes that much to get control of it is way off the charts. It seems to me, you have got to work closely with at least one doctor or more. I take a lot [200mg] but you are taking a huge amount. Do you really believe that you arn't high? Please take none of this negatively, that's not the intent, very few comments on the forum are, only to help.  If your coughing up black stuff that looks like blood, it probably is. It doesn't seem to me that oxy, or anything else I've tried helps with the shooting leg pain, that's more than likely sciatica [sp?]. Nerve impingment. The oxy helps with my back pain, which is caused by several things, not the least is degenerative disc disease. Don't know your age or lifestyle that could also contribute to your pain. Were [are] you working with a doctor about the "sub" meds you took? I haven't taken those, but some are I believe supposed to make you sick if you take narcotics with them.  Also, of couse these meds are really powerful and can cause all kinds of side effects like hi or low blood pressure. Many here know exactly [almost] how you feel, about the pain, the depression. Many of us feel this site to be a blessing, I do. To be able to communicate with others that DO know how you feel is very important, especially when the pain or the emotions are peaking on us. At times my only relief from pain is writing about it. Also, you probably noticed there is a pain management forum here. I assume you have done some searching around here, and know there is tons of useful info. Welcome to the forum, and hope you get a lot out of visiting, I just have to say again, you should have a good doctor or two, that will take an interest in your case, there is help out there, it probably won't be cured but hopefully it will become manageable, and way better than it is now. You are not alone.
