I start some group therapy in 2 week’s time –  not sure if it’s going to help me but anything is worth a try if it can help me stop taking drugs.

Talking to people who understand your addiction will really help you – go to a session and see what its like.

If this does not work out then try a one on one councillor as this may benefit you more. I have been seeing a councillor for the last few weeks and its really helped me understand my problem and ways to avoid bad situations.

I would highly recommend talking to someone as lighten the burden on trying to tackle this problem on your own.

Good luck!

yes, vicodine. sorry i reread the bottle 10mg and 500mg of i assume Tylenol.
I made an appointment with my dr for Tuesday.  We'll see what i do. i'm hoping I'll be far enough along that I won't ask for a new script.
I just know what quitting entails now, and I know have to realize I'm addicted. i denied it for a long time. that's what's depressing.

I am a mother of an addict.  I am living everything you are feeling with my own kid.

Keeping it a secret is part of the ritual. It's like "a mushroom" it grows bigger and stronger in the dark.

As the addiction grows the addict gets better at keeping it a secret.

You have to do EVERYTHING you can to get recovery as you did when you were trying to get high.

If you have to, go out of town and get treatment.  Groups therapy is good, but it works better if you have family support.

If you are not ready to do that then seek private therapy.  It may cost you more money, but lets face it, how much money do you spend on your drugs?

Can you bring yourself to spend that same money on therapy if it will save your life and your family?

Call around and talk to professionals, and get OPTIONS.

READ everything you can on the internet about opiates.

For my kid, I  went to the Soboxone website and found a doctor in my  area.  Soboxone film is available for outpatient treatment.

Call and speak to them, make a tentative appointment, they KNOW what you are going through, they will help you.

You are not alone. Talk to someone. Ask for help.

Yes, counseling and group therapy do help.  You have to want it really bad!  That comes first.  Detox next.  Along with some kind of aftercare.  NA, counseling, or even speaking with your pastor.  Whatever keeps you off of drugs, right?

I did not quit cold turkey.  I tapered from 2 - 3 5mg vicodin a day to 1/4 of a tablet a day. I took Clonidine (a blood pressure med) that helps with opiate WD.  Will your Dr give you clonidine?  You can say - hey - your taking away my opiates - can you please give me something for WDs or help me taper down on the drug?  Most doctors believe in tapering off of pain killers and they will give you a taper schedule and the clonidine too.  No need to be depressed yet - if your dr is reasonable there is hope.   I stopped taking vicodin on October 8.  Are you taking vicodin?

Are you depressed about having to take the pills or are you depressed from the WDs?  That is one of the major symptoms.  How much were you taking and for how long?

I can't do it locally, I live in a small town and I 'm fairly well known. Nobody knows...they all know I take something for my bad back.....I just think it's time to quit. But I don't want to be know as a pill popper.
I don't know why, but I've been really depressed over this lately

I have tried it.  I think any type of counseling is good.  I use this forum a lot since I can't really go to counseling right now.  I know alot of people here speak highly of NA.  My spouse doesn't know either.  It is tough.
