Day 12....When will I feel energy enough for the gym?

I'm Day 12, and though that doesn't seem like very long, it feels like a long time.  Although I am still sluggish, and feel like laying around after work.  When did you guys start excercising again after the withdrawals?  Would my body tire out to much if I went?  I want to know when to tell myself "Your body is fine, get your butt to the gym."   I know a lot of ppl say to take it easy, as your body is going through a lot......

Thanks.

Your body is fine, get your butt to the gym.  The quicker you start going the quicker you get your natural endorphins working.  Start out small, just start~~sara

The walk is a great idea - I did that with my little girl and it helped a lot.   Good for her because dogs don't just love going out they have to walk and good for me cause I was forced into it which I needed back then.  Baby steps now can mean the world... weird but true.

Hi Never...
Like everyone else said-exercise is an amazing tool to re-jump the body and the brain.  You aren't going to just have energy...You need to go after it.  Like Brian and Ric, I started (with their prodding(:) to walk on day 4.  I went back to yoga after day 10, and now I hike 4 km every day and do yoga 4-5 days a week.  I understand that you're working long hours and my goodness, 70 hours is a LOT.  Make time for yourself and do as many good things for your body and brain as possible...You will be amazed at how this transforms your life....
Awesome work on 12 days...Keep on going...

Yes, I do think of the years.  I was using about 20 pills a day at the end... and i've used pretty darn consistently for about 6 years... So yes, I suppose 12 days isn't that long, so I shouldn't throw my body into workouts like I used to do.  Maybe if it stops raining today i'll take my dogs for a walk..they are both about 100lbs each, that in itself is a workout.. lol.  Plus being with my dogs always makes me happy.  I do need to get moving though.. even though i'm still tired, i'm sure it will help.

You have to remember how long you abused the drugs in the first place.  I was impatient at first too until I started thinking about the years, yes YEARS, I was abusing.  That kinda puts it into perspective right?

Good luck and keep going - you'll get there.  :)

I did pretty much exactly what Ricart did. I started walking right away and then added jogging a few days later. The sooner you start the sooner your energy level will increase.

Congrats on 12 days. That's awesome!

Yeah what 131313 said.  I started at day one with walking around the block and day 2 with walking and running .THen at about day ten just running. It took until day 21 or so until I could run 3 miles so it just takes a while for your cardio to get back to normal. It's time ti hit the gym!   you can do it and you'll be glad you did and at the very least yuo'll be glad it is over lol

I will try.  My work schedule last week made it impossible I worked 70 hours last week.  I think i'll have time this week to squeeze in at least a little, and my husband says he wants to start the gym too.... Thanks for the response.  I'll let you know.

I find exercise is the biggest component to healing the brain and body.  When I have detoxed before and did nothing but lay around it seemed like the days would take forever and my energy level was always way down.

Now I make a habit of exercising every day during detox and found that this helps me feel much much better.  Initially you will be tired and not feel like doing it, but if you can push yourself and get some sweat going, I promise you will feel much much better.

Exercise is the one thing that creates the exact chemical effects in your brain that the pills were creating, so the more you exercise the quicker you get back to normal

I say get out and go even if only for 20-30 minutes.
I did not start exercising until my 3 rd week and wished I would have started sooner.
You will feel so good after coming home.
I have to do it everyday otherwise I would sit around and do nothing all day.
I promise, it will make you feel so much better and give you some much needed energy!
Post back and let us know how you do.
