I made it off hydro twice w/o suffering any wd.

The first time I had my brother hold my stash and went from around 12/day to zero over three weeks.  It wasn't bad, but I was using again within a month.

The second time was a couple of years later and my use level had increased to 35-40 10's a day.  I ran out and there was just nothing available.  I was starting to get REALLY dope sick and it looked like there would be nothing available until the next evening at the earliest.  So, in a classic it-seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time blunder, I decided to use crack to see me through the rough time.

SHAZAM!!!!  I didn't need those little pills anymore.  I WAS CURED!  Well, except for immediately becoming a daily crack smoker, and pretty quickly thereafter a constant crack smoker.  There is that part about all the trouble with the police, trouble with bad people, spending every dime I had (plus creating a mountain of debt) to fund my new habit, losing my house, losing my business, and spending a total of five months in rehab.  But, I DID get off hydro without going through those four or five bad-flu-like days.

It seems funny to me now and, at this point, I'm actually glad it happened just the way it did.  But I truly almost didn't make it and I wouldn't recommend my last method to anyone,

A much better way would be to find a doctor you can get honest with who is certified in addiction medicine, get honest with him or her, and get into a program of recovery.  Some folks like suboxone and I've seen it work wonders for two people that I know well.  Whatever you do, you need to understand and keep in mind that GETTING clean only gets you to the starting line of recovery.

well, you cant avoid the WD's. Its inevitable. You just got to deal with them and get past it. Its a miserable 3-5 days for sure but the symptoms will subside and you will start to feel better again. Symptoms and time length does vary from person to person but 3-5 days is the general average. Just prepare yourself...before you go into WD, buy yourself either some Immodium or Pepto for the diarrhea, and some Gax X for the abdominal pains, some ibuprofen or whatever OTC pain reliever you use for the body ahces and pains. Be prepared and educate yoruself. Since you do have back problems, be aware that your back pain may actually intensify for the first few days without your meds. This is NORMAL. Its your addiction trying its hardest to get you back on the drugs!! Many of discovered this when we quit using...that whatever pain had initially got us addicted in the first place, will actually be WORSE the first few days, but then it gets much much better and you will be surprised to find out with time, that your normal daily pain level is not as high as you thought it would be. Most of us found out that our pain is tolerable without narcotics! I didnt believe it at first either and thought for sure my bad back would drive me back to pills again. But i toughed it out and sure enough, I get by with only Motrin 800 now. Dont get me wrong, I do still have daily back pain but I am surviving without narcotics and I bet you can , too.  You just have to really devote yourself to quitting. You have to want more than anything, and you have to be willing to tough out the WD's without breaking down and going back to the drugs before you even give your body the chance to detox. Give it your all...keep reading and posting here. Lots of great advice and support.
