Oh yeah, whenever I drank my chai tea, I did it while sitting in a comfy chair, with low-light and soothing music. The idea in my head was to get myself as relaxed as possible. Everything together made a natural anti-anxiety situation, and the only time I managed to mantain a good sense of well-being was during my chai-time. But I unfortunately never made it through WDs entirely, as I got fixed again ASAP when my doc returned.
I think in my case the cold-burn is the worst symptom of withdrawal; its in the mail before all other WD symptoms, and from what I understand its generally the longest lasting. But everyone is different, as one of my friends gets crippling nausea, whereas I don't at all.
The worst bout of WDs I've been through was a result of my doc going on vacation without refilling my morphine, and by the second of four days without, I was drenched in cold sweats w/ accompanying hot flashes. By day three I was spending up to two hours in a hot bath for every two hours out. But in the case of the cold-burn, taking a hot bath or using a warm blanket only alleviates one half of the discomfort.
I did find that drinking black chai tea w/ sweet cream and sugar helped a bit with WDs as a whole; not that it gave any real physical relief, but it was more of a psychological boost. The tea just tasted so yummy and sweet that it helped take my mind off the WDs, and made the depression subside a bit.
I could deal with the RLS and depression, but I simply cannot stand the horrible cold-burn.... And that seems to be the one symptom which is hardest for everyone to treat, without resorting to opiates.
The only thing I can think of is something like Valium. Look at the top right of this page and click on Health Pages then look at the Thomas Recipe. It suggests Valium for this problem but it also needs time off from work. Sorry I could not help more.
I know Penelope14 dealt with this a lot during her detox. You could send her a pm,shes wonderful and I'm sure she would be glad to help if she could.Peace.....Kim
hmmmm....i hope someone else comes on here with better answers than i have....
i was all set to tell you to DEFINITELY invest in an electric blanket for your bed for the chills.....that was a lifesaver for me!!! along with long, hot soaks in the tub....but the electric blanket was heavenly
as for the hot flashes.....cool or cold compresses on the back of the neck.....and a little fan nearby or one of those squirt bottles that mist out cool water
but if you're working and not at home through all of this, then it can get trickier......i hope someone can help better.....
