how long

Hi, I've just quit oxycontin 40 mg 2x a day for severe back pain.. .  I was abusing them, and not for the first time. It has been a living hell.  I wound up at the hospital after my husband called 911 because I took an overdose of different meds that didn't put me dowm., I tried to slash my wrist as was abusive with the cops, my husband and the paramedic as once I was to the hospital was given a shot of morphine to control the tremors, l now see my doctor on Thursday and don't know what the hell to tell him.  I don't want those powerful drugs anymore.  I'm still feeling like **** and it's been 5 days, how long does this take to go away?  PLEASE DO NOT STOP THESE ON YOUR OWN EVEN IF THEY WERE NOT PRESCRIBED TO YOU GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR WITHDRAWAL MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to agree with steveo on this ... five days is tremendous -- every day from now will be better, but you'd be wise to aggressively attend meetings (any meetings), see your doctor, or specialist if you have one, and try to keep busy, even if that's going to the movies or walks or anything else that's not too physically demanding and will keep your mind off that stuff ...

If you can manage the pain with non-narcotic remedies, I think you're a potential success story.

Good luck and keep posting -- whichever way it goes.

you can tell your doctor to give you a taper plan if your really serious about getting off,it's good to see you online typing,i know i wouldn't be.did the hospital give you anything to take home.i'm thinking that if you already have 5 days clean maybe just go for the gusto and quit period.if you are still having severe back pain will you be able to function somewhat normally.ther's alot to consider.if you stay off of the oxy's you will still feel like **** for awhile but you can do this, the worst part is most likely over.good luck seriously.   steveo
