methadone detox

I am 56 and am currently detoxing off methadone at a rate of 1 mg per month. I am now dosing at 11 mg. I have been on methadone for 7 years. What are the symptoms and what can I do to ensure a smooth recovery process.

HI if you go on methadone you will be required to go to the clinic daily to get your dose I highly discourage you from going on methadone it is viscous stuff and a monster to get off of you will be sick for months if you go the sub rout it is like rolling dice some people do well on it others really struggle to come off it the problem is you dont know till you try its a gamble again the withdrawal can be severe your best bet is just to ether C/T off what your on or taper off both have advantages and disadvantages if you C/T you get it over with in a week if you taper you could be sick for a month you wil be far ahead comeing off what your on rather then going on a substitute its like jumping from the fring pan into the fire we can walk you threw a home detox its not as bad as you think we do them every day here there is no get out of jail free card sonner or later you have to come off something mines as well be the ezest of them witch is what your on think this one out good luck and God bless......Gnarly

I have been taking oxy for a couple of years now. I really want to get off it and I dont know where to go. I don't have any insurance and not very much money. If I walked into my local Hospital would they help me or just tell me to go to a clinic like the methadone clinics, or something. I just want a dr to give me a script for suboxin or methadone. I do have a support system at home. I jst dont want to have to go to a methadone clinic every day or something. I just want to do it by myself. I am very determined and know I can. Or what is the best way to go. should I go to a psychiatrist or just call a bunch of clinics and ask if they would help. Doe's anyone know where the best place to go in Vancouver, WA is.  Any help is much appreciated.

God bless ya ... (gnarly doesn't know it ... but I am one of the people he helped) ... I did 30 years on the stuff (it's too bad we can't speak as adults on this site ... I mean we've all heard the words ... but so be it) ... I'm only posting to let you know you can do it ... but don't fall into the trap when you get down to one or two mg ... then it's all in your head ... I mean your body will fu*k with you .. that is to be expected ... but the battle ... no .. the war will be in your head ...

Note to the monitors ... if I said something wrong please let me know by PM ... I do not get your emails ... gracias ...

HI .......well your taper is fine slow is good but you could go faster then that and be fine also
just get it over with a bit sooner .......like jewles said vitamins are important walmart has a 3 in one thats really good  calcium/magnesium/zinc ....you take 4 in the morning and 4 at dinner this will cut down on the withdrawal your going to feel  if you look on the right side of this page you will find the health pages look up the amino acid protacal theres some aminos that will also help ......whey protein shake are good the contain the aminos as well as vitamins and protein all of witch the body need to rebuild thee brain again walmart for 15 bucks
keep posting for support the last part is the most difficult to do but it is doable will be here to answer questions and for encouragement ....I have helped a lot of people get off this stuff if you like I will help you also good luck and God bless......Gnarly

Hey there, I just detoxed off of methadone after almost 10 years, and I am 15 days clean today! Your doing a very good taper, slow & stready is how you have to do it to minimize with drawls, you wont completely get out of feeling some discomfort, but you will lighten the blow. I detoxed from 15 mg to 2 mg over the last year, sometimes dropping by .5 mg, just to go very slow. A year ago, I tried stopping at 20 mg, aand it was terrible, but this summer, jumping off after my slow taper, was not bad at all. I have been functional, and my symptoms are alot lighter. Again, you will feel it affect you some, lack of sleep, loose stools, lack of energy, but you need to make sure you begin to feed your body the nourishments you have been lacking, calcium/magnesium/zinc, and potassium, very important. Stay on this forum, we are all here to help you thru this! Jewlz

Well I don't think there is a much smoother taper than the one you are doing! You should hardly notice the withdrawals at that rate. But if you do, then try something to help you sleep, take lots of vitamins and minerals, exercise when you can, and access some support groups like NA or counselling.
