Methadone or Heroin ? Cold turkey ,gotta go through it no choice. However, which one would you suggest ? Would be easier to quit...

Here's what I did.. If you can get a hold of say 10 methadone 10 mgs and a few clonidine you should be alright. I kicked heroin 70 days ago and I'm not sure what your habit is but mine was pretty raging and this protocol got me through and I was pretty comfortable so here's my experience day 1 15mgs of methadone in a.m clonidine in afternoon then 1 b4 bed day 2 10mgs of methadone in a.m and again clonidine as needed day 3 10 mgs of done day 4 5mgs done 1 clonidine at bed day 5 5mgs done again 1 clonidine at night. this was at an inpatient and when they told me the protocol I thought for sure I was screwed and it would NEVER be enough to get me through but surprisingly it did granted I didn't fell GREAT day 6 but comfortable enough the methadone even at small doses builds up in your system and carries you through for a day or two after you stop. Like I said I am now clean 70 days!!! Good luck you can do it:)

alot also depends on ur dose of heroin and how long u have been on it...if u can not quit without a maintenance drug...then I would consider the use of a maintenance drug..but only if i tried first without..or even several times without/on my own//a drs advice and help by rx-ing safe drugs lke clonidine to help u thru it..sub and methadone are maintenance drugs..but both can also be used short term to help wds and possibly avoid addiction to the drug u r using to avoid wds..it can b a vicious circle..for sub there is a 21 day limit/and people will argue this limit as everyone is different..if u stay on either long term u still have to pay the price of wd from either drug..in actuality no matter how u decide to do this, aftercare will help u more than anything else..people resist it...but ur plan needs to include some form of aftercare...or most likely u will be posting here again later on after relapsing...make a plan...make sure u have cut urself off from ur supply..can even mean changing ur phone number..put urself in the best possible situation to do this and stick to ur plan..good luck and keep posting

IMO you'll find it easier to get off heroin than methadone. Methadone has such a long half-life that it sticks around forever. See a doc and try to get some Clonidine and review the Thomas Method. I'd recommend just going cold turkey, but if that isn't feasible, expect to be on methadone for a long long time. It is not an easy drug to come off of. If you need to be off heroin and have a decent energy level 3 days from now or something like that, then methadone is the way to go, because kicking heroin is going to take 3-5 days, then a week to get back on your feet. If you have a couple of weeks, I'd say just bite the bullet, do your research and preparation, stock up on the necessary stuff, and go through with the withdrawals. Hope this helps.
