my daughter

I have a 20 yr old daughter that is starting the saboxin clinic today. She recently confessed to us that she has a drug problem with oxycodone. What are the effects of this saboxin and can this really help my daughter.I am worried sick over this. I am so scared for her life.

Hi there, if possible, you can read my story on my homepage as to how I recovered from a narcotic addiction using Suboxone.  I did it in a residential treatment center and they supervised the Suboxone doses which I highly recommend because if not supervised, Suboxone itself can become addicting as well and much harder to stop taking.  They only gave it to me for a week by giving 1 pill for 2 days then 1/2 pill for 2 days then 1/4 pill for 2 days then they stopped.  I still had withdrawal symptoms after the week but they told me that was from being on a high dose of Fentenyl for 2 yrs besides the vicodin and occasional oxycodone.  I was in treatment for 12 days then chose to go home but after getting home it still took a couple months to feel 'normal' again and still longer to regain all my strength.  If your daughter has been on lower doses of oxycodone and for a shorter time than I was (5 years) then I would imagine her withdrawals would be a little easier.  She's not going to sleep good at night for a while so for her sake, if you could be supportive of this it will make it much easier for her not to start taking the pills again.  Recovering from narcotic addiction is like trying to heal after a very long illness has taken all your energy, not to mention how your body has to physically put itself back together again, please be patient in her healing and monitor the Suboxin doses so she doesn't get dependent on those as well.  I'm here to talk if you ever need someone. - Terri

From what i have read in here, when done properly through a legitimate clinic and for a short term, it will help her tremendously.  she will need your support now, of course, but even more after she is totally clean.  addiction is a disease and is very mental.  when stress comes into her life, or people she used to hang with that were in thew same liestyle, she will be tempted to take "just one pill".  she really needs a support system.  let her know you are proud of her, you love her no matter what.  there is no place or room for shame here.  just love and support her.    Lucy
