So yeah....TRAMADOL IS NOT THE ANSWER.

There are over 1000 posts about Tramadol withdrawals on this site. Id suggest reading them before you replace one addiction for another because that's what will happen and from my understanding...Tramadol withdrawals are far worse than Heroin withdrawals because they last WAY LONGER.

Im an ex Heroin addict. IV drug use for too many years. Did so much a day...cant put a number on it. Point is, I detoxed cold turkey and am here to talk about it. Yeah it hurts but it wont kill you. I mean, if you have the option to get into a treatment facility to detox then go for it but if not, going cold turkey works too. Just treat it like you have the flu...when you get sick, dont tell yourself its from the H...tell yourself you caught the flu and ride it out.

I would just hate to see you back on here a couple months from now talking about how bad you feel trying to detox from Trams.

Wish you the best of luck.

Hi there! Be very careful with the Tramadol. It is not technically classified as a narcotic in most states, but it acts on the brain the same way opiates do. It also has an anti depressant quality to it. It is addictive and the detox from it can be very rough. In my humble opinion, if at all possible I think it's best to just bite the bullet and quit without looking for a magic cure or substitute drug. I know that's not always possible, but it's that kind of 'addict thinking' that got us into this mess, right? The withdrawals suck, but they are doable. The big keys to being successful are to cut any and all sources for the drug, tell your secret, and set up aftercare such as counseling and/or NA/AA. This site can also be an amazing tool. You will find lots of love, encouragement, support, and advice here. We are here for you every step of the way and can help suggest remedies to ease your withdrawal symptoms. Please stick around and keep posting. Good luck to you! You can do this!! Please take care of yourself and try to keep your head up.

I used heroin for 8 years & was doing about 2 grams a day.  For me I had to go into a detox facility & did a medical withdrawal & am currently on suboxone.  I got clean finally in June, but that was after 17 treatment centers.  I could not do it on my own.  I am in sober living & working the steps with a sponsor.  Once you get through the detox you will feel so much better, even though it seems impossible right now.  & actually the treatment center I was last at would use tramadol to detox the patients who weren't going on suboxone.  They all said it worked really well.   Just be sure to get off it because it is a narcotic. I had started to ween off my suboxone but found out I was pregnant.  Best of luck to you.

Tramadol might help with withdrawls but it's not a narcotic soo I dunno man. But I was on about 10 10mg hydrocodone ,1 to 2 40 mg oxys,  about 2-5 somas a day, mind it if I made more money at work that week( commission job) it was significantly more that that, with fentanyl suckers/ patches, the 100mcg, oxymorphone, roxys, ect.  But I got on suboxone, and that helped with the withdrawls better than anything and it's not methadone. My thing is that when I got on suboxone, I started school again, working, dating, ect. I had my life back. A lot of people argue that you are switching one to another, but really if it makes your life better I say go for it., and there's a difference btw being psyichally addicted and dependent to a drug and taking something like suboxone where your not waking up in the morning searching, fiening, hurting. Personally I don't see anything wrong with taking something like suboxone for the rest of your life, if it has a positive effect on it, and a lot of the addiction specialist doctors I've seen have said the same thing. What I've noticed is that over the past 2 years of taking it, I've slowly cut down on my own, because of doing things I love to do again, ect. from 2 8mg strips a day to a quater a day and I still feel great, mentally, physically and spiritually.  Unfortunately a lot of people use it as a crutch to keep using. And use then when they run out, grab the suboxone for withdraws, then go back. But if you stick with it, it has nalaxone in it and that prevents other opiates from having an effect and will throw your body into rapid detox if you do take suboxone after a good run with dope( which is why a doctor will make you withdrawal for a good day or two before you can take it, which *****) so even if you try to shoot up or take pills, you might only try once or twice because there's no effect, and you realize you wasted 100$ bucks or whatever the amount. But I was on suboxone for two weeks at first to get off dope then tapered off. A few months later I started to pop a few pills every once in a while again so I got back on it. Now I've been on it for about 2 years and haven't felt better. My life has changed significantly, no pills or anything, now its my choice to stay on it or get off of it, my brain is F'd regardless and will probably need to be on an antidepressant or something the rest of my life( which the suboxone in some states is used for, antidepressants and pain). Also you can get a shot of vivitrol, it lasts a month and it takes all the BS  from the dope, cravings, withdrawals ect..... away.  But there about 400$ a shot. Anyways there's lots of government help for suboxone(money wise) if you don't have insurance and the website has coupons and help as well. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. My friends and I all have experience getting off of pills/ heroin and with suboxone and vivitrol, do don't hesitate to ask. One more thing, a lot of  people bash suboxone on the forums but it affects everyone's body differently, so do your own case work on it and see. Like i say by the grace of god my life had meaning now. Oh one more thing, I was on that crap for a good 6 years and then decided I was done and got on suboxone. What I love the most is, not worrying about how to score everyday, get money, sleep, being super super depressed, hating myself and life, and the list goes on, this has been the first time in years that I feel normal, and atribute that to the suboxone. Give me a shout if you have any questions or need any help.  Mtvs True life just aired a prescription drug show today at 2 pm tx time called " I'm Addicted to pills" and they talk about how suboxone has helped them, check It out man if you can. mahalo nui loa, Joe
