percoset withdrawals

I'm attempting to withdraw cold turkey from percosets on my own and reading all the posts have been very helpful. I've on them now for nearly a year prescribed for severe back problems. My story is not very different from what I have been reading. I knew I was becoming addicted but kept telling myself that once the back issues were resolved, I will let go of the painkillers. The painkillers allowed me to continue working while seeking medical procedures for the back problem. What I did not know until now was that my body may have been creating more pain in my back because 1) my brain was no longer producing the natural stuff to deal with some pain and 2) when I made attempts to stop the percs in the past, the increased back pain could have been from the withdrawals themselves. My habit is 12 - 18 pills a day 10mg tablets. I know the mind will take some time but how long is the actual physical part of the withdrawal and what should I expect physically with each passing day?  THank you for your help.

Hi Chester. What you can expect with each passing day is feeling better! You will feel better after a few days. The first 5 days were the worst for me. Day
2 was no fun at all, days 3-5 were hard but I made it. I took a week off work and I was able to be alone for those first five days. I used the thomas recipe and the amino acid protocal. I still take amino supplements and vitamins after 31 days. I had all the usual symptoms - stomach upset , anxiety, fatigue, restless legs, and insomnia. Get some Immodium and gatorade, and take a look at the 2 links I mentioned at the bottom of the page. You can do it. Just don't take anything and keep posting. Eventually you'll be telling other people how to detox!!

Congrats on wanting to get clean!
Each persons experience with w/d's are different but the symptoms are primarily the same.
Days 2-5 were the worst for me.
You will experience diarrhea, rls, aches/pains, fatigue, I had severe runny nose and sneezing also. And the biggest and usually worst symptom being, insomnia (for me anyways).
I spent pretty much the first 3 days in bed, getting up at the end of the third day and going outside for short walks 2-3 times a day. This will be the last thing you will want to do but it will help so much.
I drank tons of water, hot tea and Gatorade.
Everyone will tell you to make yourself eat. I didn't have to make myself bcuz from day 2, I was eating like a horse!
I often took hot showers throughout the day. Again, not something I wanted to do but sure does make you feel better. Hot soaks in Epsom salt in the bath also.
I didn't follow the Thomas recipe but did take a multi-vitamin, b-12, potassium for the rls and leg cramps, aleve for aches/pain and st johns wart.
And I cannot forget...Immodium! And if you need to double up on, go for it.
You can do this!
Keep posting and let us know how things are going.
