Ah yes, the pill count. How well I know THAT dance...I did it every single month for years and years. I was taking extra pills too...one here, one there. Then I locked up my bottle in our safe and had my husband doling them out.
I would STILL end up short sometimes...I'm convinced that a lot of theft happens at pharmacies.
Anyhow...I agree with nursegirl 100%; you have to tell your doctor what is going on. Addiction starts with lies, and then gets worse and worse, until you are overwhelmed.
The problem with opiates is that we often start taking them for pain, and they work for a while, then it seems they begin to CAUSE pain. Talk to the doctor about this be brutally honest, and tell them how you are feeling. Let us know what happens...
Good luck sweetie,

HI there!
You're wise to be concerned, as this is often how an addiction begins. It can start innocently enough, taking an extra one here and there (even for legit pain). You DO run the risk of being dismissed by your doctor if you're asked to bring your meds in for a count. Have you been asked to do that before?
MY advice to you would be to make an appointment, go in, and be 100% honest with your doctor. Explain that you have taken extra when your pain wasn't well controlled, and now you've been worrying yourself about it.
Please be cautious, no matter what you decide, because like I said, this could put you on a slippery slope to nowhere good.
Best to you, hope it all works out.
