Hey Kiwigirl69..

If I had to do it all over again.. which I hope wont happen.. I think I would go to an NA meeting before I detoxed.. If I am out of place here, I apologize.. I think that is okay..

The reason is that I think the worst part of your first detox is the fear of not knowing what is going on.. Education is power.. and I think that knowing there is a place like NA that you can go after you quit.. that would have been a huge help..

Dont fear the detox.. Check with your doctor, tell him your gonna quit.. and just do it.

Try to remember that what your experience is your brain and body cleaning house .. its not a bad thing, its healthy for you to detox.. ( Its not fun however) ..

Then get to the meetings as soon as you can and often as you can..

The withdrawals won't be fun...no doubt!  The good news is that you won't die from Morphine WD.  If you are planning to stay with your partner, can I ask if they are stopping also?  It would be hard for you to stop with someone around, still using!

There are many ways to help yourself through the WD.  Thomas recipe.  Heating pad.  Epsom salt baths.  Gatorade.  And of course, any meds you take during WD need to be prescribed by a doctor.  Clonidine is a BP med and helps the acute withdrawal.  Immodium will help.  So will tylenol and advil.  The insomnia will be bad for a while, but it ends at some point and you will be able to go all day and sleep at night without the aid of pills.  There is a lot of reward in THAT!

Good luck!
