Methadone Taper

I've lingered here for months and months.  Hit my bottom.  Took 40mg of Methadone for about 8 days for w/d.  I was taking 40 vics a day.  Here is my plan that, so far, I've stuck to PERFECTLY (for a pill addict like me I'm proud)  I've gone from 40mg down to 15mg by reducing 5mg every 2 days.  The plan says I'll be done next Sunday.  I know I shouldn't have done the Methadone but to me it was a life and death situation.  Is this plan good or will I have baaaad w/d off the methadone next week?  I will have been taking it for about 3 weeks total as I taper....   Going to aftercare everyday and went parttime at work to allow for the care...  One more thing, I don't find my addictive behavior with the methadone...

My hubby's been on the metadone programme now for 2yrs as is w/ding off methadone currently. He started on 65mg and initially went down 5mg a week til he got to about 10 then slowed it down to 2.5mg a week cos the w/d's were more severe. Once he got to 5mg he slowed it even further and has reduced by 1mg a week since then. he's been on 1mg for the last week and the w/d's have been full on. He's following the Thomas Recipe now cos as from today he's no longer taking any methadone.  The advice on this site from others has been ...DON"T rush it as it can be very nasty! As an on looker supporting my hubby through this I'd have to agree.

I think u will probably have some w/ draw from the methadone. Three weeks is long enough to sustain a habit. It's good you've been tapering so your symptoms may not be as bad. Also don't beat yourself up for taking the done. I've been off and on it promising myself I would never go back. But the withdraw from the heroin was so severe I diidnt know what else to do. If u do start getting sick maybe try going slower on your taper. Good luck!
