i went to my psychiatrist with my problem with opiates and asked for suboxone. she said no. they put me on a tapering schedule with oxys and i did that for about 5 days and said **** it and flushed them and went cold turkey and this is my third day and i'm feeling a bit better-better as in i know i can do it and the worst is over. i did take days off tho and stuck to this forum. it will help if you become a member and can speak directly with ppl that have your same problem. i'm not leavin here anytime soon. thank you to all of you. Also i'm a firm believer in the amino acid protocol that is written on this website, my dr also gave me clonopin and bentyl to help me through- i never have used the bentyl tho. I'm sure your dr will lead you in the right direction. If you don't like him- get another and get CLEAN!! best of luck to you and keep posting..
Flmagi will be a great asset to have as a friend if you can add her. You can also personally write her messages if you a member. I wish you lots of luck.
I am not really sure, I haven't been hanging around him lately because I don't want to be around that anymore. I was I think 24 hours into withdrawals so I took it to function, I wasn't expecting the high. He doesn't take his sub, he takes the other stuff and gets high then takes the sub when he runs out. I know that is supposed to be great if used properly I guess I just don't have experience with someone that used it correctly.
Well, it sounds like Suboxone is something you might want to check into. Let me know if I can answer any other questions you might have about it.
There is a difference between Suboxone and Subutex. You can't get high on Suboxone but you can get high on Subutex. I think your friend may be getting Subutex, especially if your tried a peice and got high. Were you in withdrawels when you tried it? If not, it would have made you sick. And if your friend is taking the Sub. like hes supose to, he should not be able to get high on other drugs. Subutex can be broken down and shot to get high, which is why most doctors will give Suboxone.
thanks,Im a plumber in rural alaska, and dont have the time to deal with this in treatment,my wife has been as supportive as any non-addict can be,but thistime has decided not to help with her vics, she needs them for pain. Its ugly, this cold turkey I so often heard about but never hd to deal with
I didn't know that you were on suboxone. I know that it works for some people. My friend who was addicted to heroine though hasn't been lowered in the 4 years he has been off heroine and choses to use methadone and various other prescriptions drugs that he can get his hands on now. He bullshits his dr everytime they try to lower him. If you have enough discipline though, I know that it can be a real help. In my experience I just haven't seen someone that it helped. I am really glad that it working for you though.
welcome, also glad u found this site...i dont' know anything about methadone, or sub, but alot here do, today is a little slow, so someone will be along to help..
the one thing i agree with you on, is i am also an alcoholic, and when in meetings or rehab, i never understood people taking pain meds....Dang i really never even paid attention to those, because my DOC was alcohol....Then when i got sober, and then started having really bad pain, i quickly became the ones i didn't understand...Like you I GET IT NOW!!!!

I'm on Suboxone and think it has been a life saver for me. I hear coming off methadone is a b!tch. So to go the Suboxone route is a personal choice. You need to ask yourself some questions. Can you successfully taper or cold turkey off the methadone? Do you have the time and strength to do that? Can you miss work etc.for whatever time is needed to get clean? If not, the Sub. may be your option. Only certain doctors can perscribe Suboxone, so you would need to go to Suboxone.com and find a doctor near you. Also read info on it there. Being on Sub. is giving me the time I need to get my life back in oreder and get use to not looking for the high, while feeling normal and not lathargic and unmotivated. As far as it being an addiction transfer, yes Sub is addictive, but can be weaned off very slowly with little to no withdrawels if done right.
Hope this helped. Keep posting and let us know what you decide. We're here for you which ever option you choose.
Only certain doctors are able to prescribe suboxone. You can look it up online. Only you know what is right for you. I honestly feel that it would be trading 1 addiction for another. I took a quarter of a suboxone once,(I am not sure the original dosage, but a friend of mine is a heroine addict and gets them) anyway I was high for 24 hours off of the quarter. I know that they are not supposed to make you feel high but I was definately there. You have to do what is right for you and if you don't think that you can do it cold turkey, do what is best for you. I wish you the best of luck.
