Clonidine and amitripyline for sleep?

Anyone had this combination? Anything to watch out for taking these things? Dr says the combination will help re-stabilize my sleep,,not flat knock me out..The Amitriplyline he says helps with the anxiety and depression associated with the lack of sleep...I just started it last night so I don't have any time to say one way or the other whether or not its effective...

Thankyou Mike,,my doctor warned me about following exactly as directed and some possible side effects. He seemed more concerned with the clonidine though with me. Said if I abused that, I could drop my BP so low I could have a stroke..

Glad to say though for the first time in months I'm taking some meds that can help,,not hinder. So sorry to hear about your sister..I've lost two brother's needlessly so can relate..Thanks again...David

I was allergic to elavil.  They gave it to me years ago for depression when I had cancer.  I wasn't really depressed but my doctors just gave me script after script of all kinds of stuff, it put me out in left field.  My sister accidental took a double dose, and died from heart failure.  Some people can't take it.  Be careful with it and watch for signs that you may be unusual. The clonidine works to lower your blood pressure so you won't feel too nervous.  It works well.  Good luck to you and hang in there.

Thankyou Vicki, I figured it might take a few days on the amitriptyline but overall of being away from the oc's 6 days and the perc's 4days, I'm doing pretty good. Far better than 4 or 5 months ago on day 4....But like everyone else,,sleep is a big issue....

Hi Dave !   That sounds like a good combo. The Amitriptyline takes a few days to kick in.  It works a bit differently than the SSRI's and will cause drowsiness and lethargy. I took it a long time ago for chronic pain and only noticed the sleepiness. I didn't stay on it very long because of that...but I've known many people who have had good results from taking it.
