No it doesn't lower sperm count it increases sperm count and sex drive unless you smoke tobacco along with it if you get a carbon monoxide detecter that has 00.00 digits and hold a joint under it it dont go up a single digit now do it with tobacco and it goes up a few digits carbon monoxide is what kills you and your sperm count if you smoke tobacco on top of weed then yeah you will same as lung cancer the information people go by is mainly from the 80s which is at least 26 years ago now we have technology it's time to update the information on it

Thanks newmanagement ther is way way too much paranoida about pot. I know tons of folks that smoked daily and have great kids. Normally these studies have hidden agendas. There is still this reefer madness mindset in the US even though its legal in California and other states. Why not ask a doctor there that gives a script to one of his patients for pot and that patient intends to have kids.

The Uk is going on very bad info they just made pot there a schelude B drug.
Basicly to collect more fines.

lota info here, but most of it is journals and research. so ima throw my 2 cents.
I smoke bud every day, have since i wuz 12. I have 3 kids, all normal, healthy , happy, and nerve trying!!!
so it may slow your sperm count, but it will not affect the baby in any way. thc willnot travel to the baby, even if mom smokes. It will not cause birth defects in any way, and it will not lead to an addicted baby at birth. best of luck to ya, enjoy em when they come , cuz my kids are a blast!!

Use of cocaine or marijuana may temporarily reduce the number and quality of your sperm. ... It can take several years for sperm production to return to normal. ... Tobacco smoking. Fertility may improve when you quit smoking. ... If your sperm analysis is normal, your doctor will likely recommend

yes pot lowers your sperm count    Marijuana smoking damages sperm

Drugs can damage sperm
Men who smoke marijuana frequently damage their fertility in several different ways, research suggests.
Scientists at Buffalo University found regular smokers had significantly less seminal fluid, and a lower sperm count.

Their sperm were also more likely to swim too fast too early, leading to burn-out before they reach the egg.

Lead researcher Dr Lani Burkman said: "The bottom line is, the active ingredients in marijuana are doing something to sperm."

The sperm from marijuana smokers were moving too fast too early

Dr Lani Burkman
Marijuana contains several chemicals known to have an impact on human physiology, including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
The researchers believe that THC may disrupt the way sperm swim, or it may block mechanisms designed to weed out malfunctioning sperm.

Key receptors

It is known that human sperm contains receptors which are stimulated by substances like THC and other cannabis-related chemicals.

Tests have shown that sperm exposed to high levels of THC began to swim in an abnormal fashion, and were less able to attach to an egg so that fertilisation could take place.

In the current study, Dr Burkman's team carried out a battery of tests on sperm samples taken from 22 men who had smoked marijuana on average 14 times a week for at least five years.

In particular, the scientists assessed the sperm to see when they began to swim in a very vigorous fashion.

It is vital that a sperm begins to swimming vigorously as it approaches the egg to improve its changes of successful fertilisation. However, if it begins to swim too fast too soon its changes of reaching the egg are significantly reduced.

Dr Burkman said: "The sperm from marijuana smokers were moving too fast too early.

"The timing was all wrong. These sperm will experience burnout before they reach the egg and would not be capable of fertilization."

Long-term impact

Dr Burkman conceded that many men who smoke marijuana have fathered children.

However, she said that smoking the drug may tip the balance against men whose fertility was borderline to start with.

"THC from marijuana may push them over the edge into infertility."

Dr Burkman said it was unclear whether fertility would recover after men stopped smoking marijuana.

But she warned that THC remained stored in fat for a long period.

"We can't say that everything will go back to normal.

"I definitely would advise anyone trying to conceive not to smoke marijuana, and that would include women as well as men."

Professor Alison Murdoch, chair of the British Fertility Society, told BBC News Online the results were not surprising as marijuana was a potent drug which was likely to have an effect on many systems in the body.

However, she said many other factors, such as diet, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking and exercise also had an impact on fertility.

"Male fertility is quite complicated. The partners of men with low sperm counts can sometimes achieve pregnancy, and it is only when men produce very, very small amounts of sperm that they can be considered infertile."

Details of the study were presented to a meeting of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in San Antonio

CNN did a week long special a few weeks ago about the pros and cons of legalization of pot. Funny it was called "up in smoke" lol.
But they did touch on fertility, and there was evidence that chronic smoking did lower the sperm count. I am not sure if this is permanent or not. I would see a doctor and see what they say. Hopeflly once you stop, the count returns to normal.

This is more a question for a doctor but I applaude you and your wife for quitting pot. There are people here who are narcotic addicts who think pot is fine but most know it's not the fun harmelss drug they once believed it was. Heavy pot smoking has been linked to lung cancer and mental illness and more things. Even just a little pot can affect your thinking and your life. I was a daily  potsmoker for 20 years and am so glad to have a clear head and clear lungs. It can be a valuable medicine for people with cancer , wasting syndrom or glacoma (sp) but you will both be better parents without it.
