ultram vs. vicodin

I would like to know which is harder to detox from, ultrum or vicodin? I have heard horror stories about both.

It is easier to get off Vicodin than ultram (aka tramadol) because tram is synthetic and contains an antidepressant. Like sub and methadone, also synthetic, the withdrawal is long and arduous. Vicodin is the weaker of the narcotic pain meds and detox, although not fun, is over relatively quick. 1 to 2 weeks tops.  Tram w/d lasts for months.

Ultram is not a narcotic therefore not addictive like vicodin. If you take it only as prescribed and in frequently you shouldn't have any problem or withdrawal. If someone has an addictive personality they should take Ultram

A little more detail about your situation might help others guide you.  The short answer would be to avoid both.  There's horror stories out there regarding both of these medications.  My opinion is that Ultram has less euphoria and therefore a lower potential for abuse.  That said, Ultram is a witch's brew of an anti-depressant and a pain medication that is a weak opiate-like drug, but one that metabolizes into a much stronger one.  Many people have found Ultram to be a very hard drug to quit using.  Both of these medications should be avoided if at all possible
