update for all

Still here at work trying to get out desperately.  Got a call from my mother in law who stayed with her last night and it doesn't sound good.  One thing my grandmother had asked was when she left this earth, she wanted me to play the piano and sing a hymn at her service.  Dear God give me strength.  I did write this poem, thinking that when something happens Imight could read it, but I am not sure if it is good enough.  It surely captures her.....

For Grannie:

You are part of all I am and part of all I’ll be
You are part of my every thought and precious memory.
I feel so bad for those who have not gotten to see
A grandmother’s love, her heart, her grace  and spirituality.

A child’s messes do not matter, She didn’t see them that way
For she saw them as blessings, and loved to get in and play.
A grandma’s food just is the best, and cooking she adored.
Every weekend, every holiday, into the food she poured
Years of love and wisdom, and good old Southern wits
And every meal she planned and cooked was always a big hit.

To live long years is a blessing, in some ways I suppose,
But she has suffered horribly with those who have gone before.
I know there is a heaven and someday we’ll meet there.  As long as she has had
Breath to speak, her eyes have closed in prayer.

She taught me all the scriptures, and taught me to be kind,
And although I am not half the person she is,  I hope someday I’ll find
That my grandkids will love me, as we have loved her too.  Lord help me teach
The little ones the stories about you.  Let me teach them how to pray,
Just as she did for me,
and when her time and mine has come,
May we meet in eternity.

I think that's absolutely beautiful!  Just the fact that it came from you and speaks of your own feelings toward your beloved grandmother makes it even moreso.  My condolences to you at this difficult time.  May your grandmother's passing be peaceful, may she be greeted with open arms by her loved ones that have gone before her, and may every memory you keep of her be as beautiful as those you wrote about in your poem.  Hugs and prayers to you.

That is such a beautiful poem and I think she'll hear it and know it came from your heart. When the times comes, you will find the strength you need to read it. I'm so sorry that she is not well, my prayers are with you.
