well it's day 14 and things have been really difficult.  he's still not sleeping well. about 3 to 4 hours a night. he had 2 beers last night and that relaxed him enough to sleep 6 hours. but i'm worried he's gonna end up drinking all the time. ( we dealt with that issue in feb).  how long before he can sleep well at night. not too anixious anymore. just the cravings are still bad. took his cell away from him. told every that called not to bother him anymore. you wouldn't believe the mother_____ that called back trying to sell him some stuff. even after i told them he was done. i had to threaten to call the police.  so far so good though wish us luck

Hi,

You've done a wonderful job supporting him through all this, and it really sounds as if he's turning a corner. The fact he felt well enough to go fishing is great, and the trip will do him good too.

The will still be ups and downs. If he's not sleeping well, Valerian Tincture is a great help. Also the natural amino acid 5HTP eases withdrawal symptoms, calms you down and aids sleep. Both are safe and non-habit forming. You can get them online or from any good healthfood shop.

Keep up the great work!

Deal with it girl! (big smiles)..Its normal what you describe his attitude as..But that a good sign..Things should start to take a turn for the better. Tell him to get up and move around some even if he doesn't feel like it..That helped me immesily last week..

No punching,,but you are allowed sacastic love taps! :)

-Try Hylands Restful Legs, amazing stuff!

- Stay away from caffeine right now, as it is a stimulant.

- Eat bananas, as many as possible, will help with the leg cramping.

- Imodium Ad

- A good multi vit

- And the more water he can drink the better. I'd say 80oz. If he isn't taking the water down then get Gatorade.

- Sleep is good. So if he falls asleep, don't wake him! My mom kept coming in to check on me. "Laura are you ok" drove me up a wall. I was until you woke and now I won't be returning to sleep anytime soon!

- Baths are amazing during this time. And I am not typically bath taker, but the first few days of detox I could live in warm bath water. Not only will this help his muscle cramps, but also relax him. Let him in as long as he wants. My first day kicking, I spent 4 hours in the bath.

- Advil, tyl whatever works for him

- Heating pads and ice packs

Those are some of my tricks that help me during the crisis of WDs.
Just stick by him though this difficult time!!

But I sure people will add more helpful ideas!

For me personally days 2-3 are the toughest. Having kicked pills both medically and cold turkey, withdrawals differ. How is he feeling? What is going on with him?
I'm kicking again right now, and on day 5 and the worst is passed. The only thing now is the restless legs, I feel like I have snakes crawling out of my skin, but only on my legs, and I left like I need to get up in move, run! My parents tried getting me into a detox to help with the WDs but many places were not taking opiate addicts because the WDS cannot kill you. All the beds were full at the detox units and they couldn't take an opiate. Someone told me to get drunk and then show up there and have them kick the WDs! So remember that, opiate WDs cannot kill you. Watch for depression, anxiety-comes quickly. My heart feels like it is going to pound out my chest but when I take my pulse it is normal. So, I just go with it, knowing that I am ok. Obviously we are all different, and I am only speaking on my experience. The first time I kicked opiates I went inpatient for medical detox. The other times I fought through at home as was ok. I guess just listen to his body, he will know when it is time to seek medical help.

What are the worse of his WDs? Baths work wonders!

Stick around, someone with much more experience, stregth and hope than I do will come along and post something more helpful!
