How to approach Doctor

My husband seems to have symptoms of AI--unexplained weight loss, extreme fatigue, mental fog, borderline hypoglycemia, and low-ish BP with orthostatic hypotension.  He also has Hashimoto's.  We took him into a thyroid specialist who ordered the ACTH stim test.

His results came back in the "normal" range, if I'm understanding everything I read online.  At 0 min he was 11.5 and at 60 min he was 24.5.  It doubled, but does that seem low?

We have our follow up appointment with the Dr. and I'm afraid he's going to dismiss our concerns.

My husband doesn't know if his bloodwork was done in a chilled tube but the nurse did take it right away and the results were posted very soon after the test, so at least they weren't sitting around in a box somewhere.  They didn't test actual ACTH levels.

I guess I'm just asking for advice on what to say to the doctor if he starts telling us there's nothing wrong.  Are there things left undone that should be done?  What do you think?

Thanks in advance,
Julie

How are his sodium and potassium levels?

It can be an issue with renin/adlosterone when POTS is involved, not just cortisol - so all the hormones need to be looked at.

For the stim test, they only take a baseline ACTH - the rest are cortisol tests. He did double. It is possible to pass when you are on the verge of failure - kind of a last hurrah. A good doctor will know that but some of them are numbers only and don't really *look* at the patient.

I don't know or don't recall other testing he has had to support his AI diagnosis - it is a salt wasting disease. So I hope all that was tested too.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I went in to the appointment today, armed with a few more questions and tests I wanted done, but this doctor was COMPLETELY closed to any more investigation--just as I had suspected.  All I can think is that my poor husband will have to truly go over the edge into failure.  Maybe then we can get a doctor to pay attention.

That is sad.

Did you get copies of all his prior testing - including 'lytes?
