Alcohol Withdrawal
I have been drinking about two six packs of beer each day for about 7 months. I have decided to try quitting once again. I have read how some people have seizures when they abruptly stop drinking. Does anyone know when you are out of the "danger zone" when you withdraw from alcohol abuse?

The two main factors that determine how long a person will go through symptoms are how long the person has been drinking, and how much alcohol that person consumes regularly. Another aspect that needs consideration is the extent of that particular person’s chemical dependency. Everyone’s body reacts differently to the effects of alcohol; therefore, it is hard to conclude how long recovery will take.
Heavy drinkers who have a history of dependency usually experience the worst withdrawal symptoms. There are many different types of symptoms that can present themselves. The symptoms can range from mild to even life threatening.
In rare cases withdrawals can even last for years but know this for sure, the worst feeling of withdrawal will likely be immediately after you stop drinking. For me I was drinking 23 beers a day and spending $600 a month. My worse withdawals lasted only a few days. It's been something like 596 days since my last drink. I have days that I get the urge but it goes away in like an hour or something. So I don't know if that counts as a withdrawal or not but I know if I can do it then so can you! Congradulations on your sobriety. I wish the very best for you!

I was drinking way, way more than that for 20+ years when I decided to quit. I went to an adcictologist (they are a real doctor), and had him admit me to detox in the hospital. it was only three days and was totally painless; trying to quit on your own, espescially cold turkey, can actually cause brain damage.
You may want to check this out, I was drinking like you for two and a half years on top of taking xanax...I am sober now after 1 month! Never thought the WD's would subside but I am so glad they did!
