Being Alone

by narla, less than a minute ago
I'm 57 days clean from alcohol and codeine,My biggest supporter my husband and my son are going away for 10 days this will be the first time I'll be on my own.I'm nervous that being on my own for that long I might slip up,Anyone with ideas on how to make sure I stay true to myself I know it will be so easy to an idiot.

I don't go to church but I've been talking to jimi1822 a fair bit and have found some of what he says quite interesting,so tonight I'm going to church with my son he's a very devout Christian and a youth leader.People have said about going to AA or NA but I don't like talking in front of people so I'm doing all my work through my doctor and my counsellor.

try to get into church, stay with your counselr meetings for sure. boy, i wish i could take you by the hand, AA, NA isnt as bad as people think. i go to very small meetings, they benefit me. my husband prefers the really large meetings. and you dont even have to say a word, but, you would be the MOST IMPORTANT person in that room. that made me feel so welcome and warm. after, i had women come up to me and give me hugs and words of encouragement, whether i chose their way or not. then you get phone #'s, it is just so easy to be surrpunded by people like us...not to mention, you will be held ACCOUNTABLE for your time, sounds like thats what you are looking for as well.

i am not trying to be pushy, i just feel so bad cuz i know so many that stand where you are right now narla, and we cant do it alone. i understand your reasons for keeping private and all, but none of that ever has to be brought up at all......anything you say is your own free will, or say nothing at all, just listen.

wish i could bring you with me, you are a sweetheart and would fit right in, but Australia is a little far .....LOL

you know i am here for ya girl, but i have to be straight up to be a good friend. you need the help of your peers. church sounds great too, and i am so proud of you for realizing the upcoming situation and trying to find a solution before picking up a drink.....keep up the good work

I went to church with my son tonight, they had a guest speaker doing the sermon,it was all about overcoming addictions and allowing God into your heart to help with the fight, about how in life we get bruised as he put it and that God is always there to help if you let him in.I ended up in tears and I said to my son did you know what this sermon was going to be about,he swore he had no idea.I now feel this was God talking to me.I've been to church with my son before but never before was the sermon so personal.I feel this is my time to turn back to Christianity. Now with Gods help I will get through the 10 days my husband won't be here.

I am so glad you went to church with your son.  The minister had no idea you were going to be there but i think God did......did that make sense??!!  When your husband leaves get on this forum and talk with us also.  Take the time to do some things for you.  I always enjoy the time alone as i am in control of the remote, i can eat all over the house, i can take long long baths without anyone knocking on the door etc.  Check out some meetings and keep looking until you find the one that feels right for you.  Congrats on that clean time!!!!!!!!  Be proud of what you are accomplishing!!!  We are all proud of you!!           sara

i AM 6 MONTHS SOBER AND I KNOW I COULD HAVE NEVER DONE IT ALONE, I TRIED IT OVER AND OVER.  I ATTEND AA FIVE TIMES A WEEK, HAVE A SPONSOR AND PRAY TO GOD ALL THE TIME.  FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS I HAVE A LITTLE PIECE OF MIND AND CONFIDENCE IN THIS PROGRAM.  I WOULD BE NERVOUS ABOUT BEING ALONE, SO I WOULDN'T BE.  I WOULD FIND MY SELF A SAFE PLACE AND BE THERE TILL YOUR FAMILY GETS HOME.  JUST A SUGGESTION, I'LL PRAY THAT EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
