Fever, shivering, hypnagogia, diarrhea, tachycardia... related to alcohol?

Sometimes when I drink a little too much for my size (- without being 'drunk' as in passing out or not being able to walk straight) I have serious physical problems about 7-8 hours later. I have very disturbed sleep, which is normal, I wake up about 4 hours into the night and feel dehydrated so i drink a bottle of water, then usually I can't sleep after this so I do some work on my computer. I eat something sugary to try and help recover some sugar into my blood stream.

Then i go back to sleep... and the last this happened, I had been working on my computer so i put is on the floor by my bed. well in my 'dream' there were computers multiplying around me. I thought I was awake - I might have been? But I was thrashing about and I knew that I didnt have like 4 computers around me, but i couldnt remember which was the real one. Because i thought I had put it on the floor, but I looked on the floor and it wasn't there.

I kept having false awakenings, and I went from falling asleep very hot to feeling cold and clammy. My heart was beating very fast and hard, and I started having arrhythmia's. I got a zapping kind of feeling in my 'brain' -well somewhere in my head. I found that I wasnt very aware of what my body was doing, i thought i might have been shaking uncontrollably but that might have been imagined.

i tried so hard to cry out because i seriously though my heart was going to go, somehow I could make a sound and I could move my arms, i could whine a little, but i couldn't cry out. It is horrendous!

The thing is, I have drunk substantially more and this hasn't happened, so I don't think its an allergy

Bruiser: Do you work?  Can you get aide from the state?  You will need serious medical supervision to detox.  Sounds like if you don't detox soon you could be facing some serious health issues.
Hyperion: I'm with Rod - are you on any other meds?  Anti depressants?  Anti psychotics?  If you are and you are mixing your booze with them; it can be deadly.  If you aren't then you had a "bad drunk" and should feel lucky that you lived through it.
You are another candidate for medically supervised detox (in my humble opinion!)

Hi
You should start with a visit to your family Doctor they can help with the appropriate medication if you are honest and up front with them.
AA cost nothing so try and get to a meeting.

if it doesn't work by drinking less and less as days go by, you need professional help. You're going through withdrawals and it doesn't matter if it's from beer drinking or other alcohol. Your body is addicted and it is dangerous to go through withdrawals on your own. Go to the hospital asap! After detoxifying the hard works starts, though. Do you REALLY want to stop drinking? That is what you have to ask yourself. THEN, if you do, there are options. Firstly, ask at the hospital for help that you can get after detoxing! They'll let you talk to a social worker and/or a councellor most likely. There is AA, Rational recovery and re-habs, depending on your economical situation and/or insurance. Go to the hospital NOW! You have nothing to lose! I screwed up everything that ever mattered to me because of drinking and live to regret it. Don't make the same mistake! Good luck and bless you and trust me, you'll thank yourself for asking for help! They will help you at the hospital; go now!

Ok first stop is your gp, tell the doc what is going on.
How do you feel about AA?
To me it sounds like you need to stop but cant, there is a way, the AA way. I took the AA path and owe my life to it. My doctor recommended AA he could do no more for me. He treated the medical issues, AA gave me hope an a quality of life I could never have dreamed of. The only thing AA asks of me is that I help other people with drink problems in return.
The only requirement to become a member of the fellowship of AA  is a desire to stop drinking.
AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism
You are having problems that will get worse, alcoholism is a progressive illness..

Ahg, where to start really. Well, I just drink a lot of Bud Light - maybe 9-10 within 4 hours and then begin again when I wake up around 9-10am., if I have the day off. My bf does the same, or more, each day for the last 2.5 years. Last couple weeks I tryed to just stop, but it felt like my heart was beating so hard and loud it was going to just stop and it felt like the inside of my chest - heart & lungs were shaking hard. Couldn't sleep and was scared of course -  I missed the next day of work due to this and not being able to sleep all night listening to my heart beat, scared it would just stop. I just had 2 beers right now and it stopped. What can I do besides a few beers - I already gained 40 lbs. becasue of beer which is RIDICULOUS for me - embarrassing also to say the least. It does not dothis to my bf, except on occassion - I CANNOT do this for very much longer and am tired feeling like ****! So lazy & stomach pains & diahrrea - I never shop anymore, just want a beer when I get home, which leads to more beer. On good days I feel great, on bad days - like I'm dying. What can I do to wean off beer - I do not drink any other alcohol. I tried valium to help, but it doesn't seem to do it, but make it worse. Thanks.

Hi
I can relate to some of the things you experienced.
Alcohol lowers body temp hence feeling cold.
It is mind altering giving a false short lived sense of happiness or feeling good.
When you drink alcoholically you don’t get that buzz but you chase it all the same. You have no tolerance and drink more and more to try and get that high.

The sleep thing I endured for many years until I got sober. I never had a true sleep for the last few years of my drinking.
Most alcoholic drinks will dehydrate you.
The zapping in your head leads me to ask do you take antidepressants, this is a withdrawal symptom I suffered when I tried to stop without my doctors advice.
The hallucinations involving the computer I can also identify with. Again this experience for me was part of the withdrawals. The DT’S Delirium Tremors.
You don’t give much about your drinking history. Your size and the amount has no place when it comes to the alcoholic stage of drinking.
You say that this happens when you are not drunk but you don’t say how much you have had to drink.
Do you ever get blackouts, tremors in your hands, worry that maybe you are drinking to much.
Do you think maybe it time to take a long hard look at your drinking habits.
Could your drink have been spiked?
