I can't slow down

I drink about a bottle of wine a day, after I get home from work, and more on the weekends.  It is having horrible effects on my body.  I have tingling and stiffness in my feet.  I have anxiety and panic when I go over my limit (the next day).  I don't want to stop completely, but I can't seem to slow down.  I've started making myself go to bed by a certain time.  I have chronic insomnia.  Cant sleep unless I mix my meds with booze.  If I felt I could sleep properly I might not drink so much.

I just got a new job, and will have health insurance in a couple of weeks.  I've done inpatient treatment 3 times.  It just doesn't stick, because I would like to be able to drink some, just not to this extent.

I take seroquel, trazadone, citalopram, and melatonin.

Any recovering alcoholic will tell you that it is impossible to cut back.  But there has to be someone out there that was able to do it???

Taking drugs and alcohol causes damage in the long run you all ready no that you can cut back and quit I did.  I went to treatment 28 day program and the knowledge stayed in my mind even though I relapsed one time I could not get treatment out of my mind I had been beat by the drugs and alcohol and was ready to give up and put the treatment to work in my life so I did and went to meetings and listen to the speakers in the meeting they were telling me my story we all go through some of the same things done this for years and still clean and sober I turn my will and life over to a God of my understanding and thats how it works so hang in there it can get better.

First you need to talk to your doctor about the problems with your feet. Second you need to stop NOW. This is not good, mixing these drugs with drink is insane. You know that you are not going to slow down, in fact your drinking will get worse. You need to think honestly about the benefits of stopping against the risks of carrying on with your drinking.
Start today, stay away from just one drink for today, see if you can do it, try again tomorrow, just stay away from that one drink.....

I have spent 6 weeks in rehab for drug dependency. Although I rarely drink, I was advised to not take any mood altering substances (including alcohol). Since I never drank much, let alone alcoholically, I thought that it was ridiculous to suggest I couldn't have a drink. 4 months out of rehab I started to understand why. I remained drug-free but started to drink a little every other weekend. Those weekends turned into nightly and then nightly turned into taking shots within an hour upon awakening. Crazy! It was true! I WAS a true addict! I would have never expected that type of behavior from myself in a million years. When I gave up my drug of choice I defaulted on the next accessible drug-- alcohol. So the answer to your question is NO. If you are an alcoholic you MUST abstain from alcohol and all other drugs, even if you never used them addictively in the past. The anxiety you are feeling in the morning after drinking is the WD effect from alcohol. As you know, alcohol depressess the central nervous system. When you have conditioned your body to expect alcohol every day you will experience WD when you don't have it. Acute alcohol WD is hyperstimulation of the central nervous system (opposite effect experienced when drinking). This hyperstimulation causes anxiety, increased heart rate, seizures and even cardiovascular collapse. Acute alcohol withdrawl can be fatal. It is not safe for an alcoholic to attempt to drink occassionally. There is no such thing. You are putting your life at risk.
I know this wasn't the answer you were hoping for but it's one that reflects
your best interest and well-being. If you have difficulties sleeping ask the doctor to increase the seroquel or trazadone doses at bedtime. Trazadone is not effective for everyone. May be time to try another sleep aid like zopiclone or serax. Good luck to you!
