sleep

I've been sober for over a year and I sleep a great deal. For instance I took a nap yesterday after work around 7pm and got up around 10pm. Ate dinner and went back to sleep at 1am and got up for a doctors appt at 10am came home at noon and went to sleep and now I'm just getting up again and it's 8pm. I don't feel depressed. On the contrary I am still on the so called pink cloud and feel great. Not overweight. I do this over and over. Is this normal for a recovering alcoholic?

I'm here to tell you that before I sobered up, alcohol would knock me out for an hour or two and then I'd wake up, unable to sleep without the use of more alcohol. Once I sobered up, I slept like a baby. Enjoy your sobriety! If it isn't affecting your breathing don't worry about it. Good sleep is a benefit. I know that I sleep more when I work out or get into some good windsurfing sessions than when I'm not that active.

I would suggest you set an alarm for your naps to keep them under two hours, and set another for waking up at a normal time in the morning.  Make plans for the day, and actually do them.  What I think I'm seeing here is a need to re-learn how to behave in the world on a more or less average way.  I had to do this myself when i came out of treatment.  Blessings - Blu

Congratulations on your first year plus. Good job!!! No, Great Job !!! I fully agree that you manage your naps and bedtime, and get some enjoyable hobbies to keep you engaged while you're up and at home. You might be bored?  I took up what's called Pyrography, which is wood carving and burning. It's great. I'm starting a wolf........ Hobbies, and exercise are so important to life's vitality. Keep posting. Good to hear from you. Liz
