Can cold urticaria cause cold sores?

I have had cold urticaria for a few months now. After about a week of breaking out in hives when exposed to the cold I developed cold sores, about 7 on different places on/in my lips. This has happened multiple times since then where I developed several cold sores at once, whereas before that time I had never had more than one. I know the names cold urticaria and cold sore are similar by coincidence and that the cold sores could have originally been caused by the stress of the sudden cold urticaria, but is there any other possible connections between cold sores and cold urticaria or something that could cause both of these? Thank you!

Cold urticaria and cold sores are totally different things. As you know, cold urticaria is caused by a reaction to cold exposure, but cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 (hsv1) virus.

Hsv1 can be triggered by lots of things, including other illnesses and cold. So while they aren't related, they might be triggered by the same things. If you continue to get outbreaks of hsv1, you might want to talk to your doctor about suppressive therapy, like taking valtrex or acyclovir daily.

I hope things improve for you soon!
