Can throat be burned by mint?

Could you anyone tell me what it is..
I had a cough drop in my mouth for bit of scartchy and itch throat when going to bed last night. Then I fell asleep with the cough drop in my mouth.

This morning, when I woke up, I had this painful, itchy. burning throat.
I thought I was going to have a cold, but there was no fever or any kinds of cold symtomps.

It is painful and my throat and even my heart is burning together. Is because of the menthol that the cough drop has or what...?

Thanks,

Thank you for your advice. That made me feel better. This morning, I woke up with bit sore throat( I guess it might have gotten infected because of what I did the previous night) and fever.

I have gargled 3 times so far and it felt much better. I still have uncomfortable feeling on my throat, but I learned my bad habit( like falling asleep with cough drops in my mouth) caused problems.

By the way what do you mean by GP??
I have antibiotics at home. Is it ok to have any kinds of antibiotics?

Thanks again.

Hi,

It is unadvisable to leave any sugar-based preparations in the oral cavity during sleep.

It is possible that the diluted sugar pooling in the mouth and throat cause some of the bacteria to grow and may have cause an inflammation or infection of the throat.

Do start salt-water gargling at the earliest, 3-6 times daily and if there is no resolution of symptoms, see your GP for a prescription of antibiotics to clear up the throat infection.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
Regards
