Constant smoke smell

Okay I've seen other questions about this on here so I don't feel as crazy as I did before. But I have a different reason for the smell.

When I was in a competitive sport, one of the team leaders would smoke all the time around us. It was horrible. I would go home and smell that smell of cigarettes for weeks. I could never get rid of it. Once I stopped the sport a few years later, I didn't smell it anymore. Nobody in my family smokes. Then, I had a boyfriend for 3 years that was a heavy smoker, but I never got this constant smell, but I was always extremely irritated by the smell and my eyes would get itchy.

A few days ago, I went to a bar where a lot of people were smoking. I went home and got into clean clothes and went to bed. When I woke up, I had such a strong smell of cigarettes. And now, I have it all day, every day. No matter where I go. And it's starting to give me a headache. Yesterday, I accidentally walked through a cloud of someone's smoke at the college that I attend. Throughout my entire class, I could not stop sneezing, and I had so much phlegm, a runny nose, and watery eyes. I don't have allergies to anything, well maybe cigarette smoke? I cannot get the smell to go away.

Hello again,

You're very welcome. I'm glad you found my advice helpful. I actually
used to smoke cigarettes myself in university, but I was a light smoker
only 3 cigarettes a day. I used to complain about my cigarettes getting
stale and my doctor at that time used to say to me , jokingly, either
become a serious smoker or quit. So I quit smoking and that was
more than twenty years ago. Now the smell of cigarettes makes me
cough because I have asthma. Glad to hear you no longer want to
date a man that smokes. Smoking is so bad for you and as I mentioned
before studies show now that second hand smoke is just as damaging
to your lungs. My husband used to smoke too and he quit about 25 years
ago.   I wish you well.   Eve

I no longer am dating a man that smokes, so that is good. I have not seen my doctor yet, I was hoping to get some opinions on here before I went in. Thank you for your advice, this makes sense!

Hello Nickelm,

Just finished reading your comments. Have you been to your family
doctor about this issue ? It sounds to me like you may be allergic to
cigarettes. I'm sure you're aware that there are many toxic ingredients
in cigarettes including yes, formaldehyde. When I went to university,
I bought coats that I could throw into the washer. Try to avoid going into
bars where a lot of people smoke. My guess is that you are allergic to
cigarettes based on your symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, watery
eyes, excess phlegm.  If I were you, I wouldn't date any man who smokes
as second hand smoke is just as dangerous as first hand smoke.
The smoke also goes into your hair, but I guess you knew that   Eve.
