long term benadryl use

I would say that I take about 250 mg. of benadryl a day. Is this harmful?

You had a question on the doctor column for insomnia and I told you about my cure with iodine. There was no place for me to answer your reply. I do not think iodine is your problem. You mentioned that you were a night owl and got to sleep very late, but that when you did, you slept fine. Your problem might be high cortisol late in the day. That is an adrenal malfunction of sorts. There is a saliva and urine test for it. I also suffer from that, but there is treatment.

It is best to take a break from using Benadryl, because you do build a tolerance to it and it stops working.  Every medicine has to go through the liver, so the less you take the better.

I definitely am becoming immune/building tolerance to the effects.

Where did you read that benadryl is harmful to the heart? I would think it would be harmful to your liver at least.

I would say yes...I think benadryl is harmful to your heart after years of daily use. Also, if you were ever to have an allergy attack and needed benadryl, it may not work as well as its supposed to because you're becoming slowly immuned to it.
