psyllium and plantain allergy

My husband has used psyllium for many years to maintain regularity as he has a diverticulitis history.  His nasal allergies have increased significantly recently.  Reading another blog today I realized psyllium is plantain-he has been tested for grasses/pollens and plantain is one he tests positive for.
Do we lose the psyllium supplement and risk lower bowel complications? Other fibers have not worked as well-anyone with a similar experience or suggestions would be helpful.
