strong deep acid tobacco smell on someone

my spouse's "stopped smoking" months ago, but recently, I have been smelling an even stronger "acidy" tobacco smell coming from him.  It seems deep, not so much from his mouth. can this be from anything else besides "he continues to smoke"?

Thank you for your input.  I have not had an issue with cigarette smoke smell on his clothing for a long time; but that strong acid smell is coming from his mouth, but it is different than just smoke.  I wonder if it is not a deep cigarette residue that is actually in his lungs.

Hi bob2re,

My husband's son smokes. I've noticed when he sits in our car, the
whole car smells of smoke. In the wintertime, he wore a heavy winter
coat and the whole coat smelled of cigarettes. Out of curiosity, how
long did your husband smoke ?  You can try having things like his
coats dry cleaned. I actually smoked a long time ago because the
friends I hung out with smoked. It was a social thing. Even though
I smoked very little compared to my friends, my clothes stank of
cigarette smoke until I washed them of course. My clothes would
have picked up second hand smoke from my friends. If your spouse
has said to you that he has stopped smoking, he probably has
stopped smoking. That's one of the reasons I stopped smoking,
smelling old cigarette smoke in my clothes and tasting tobacco
the first thing I woke up. Anyway, hope my post is helpful. Eve
