Female, hair half gone

It is time to aggressively find an answer.  I am a 53 year old female who looks much younger. I weigh 126 pounds and am 5'5".  I exercise 4 times a week and have an active job (RN). I will say that I have more stress than other people, especially over the last two years.  I started noticing my hair falling out.  It is all over the house.  There are few times I can touch my hair without a few loose ones coming out.  I've been tested for thyroid, and had numerous other blood tests.  All normal.  My GYN said my blood tests showed that I'm in perimenopause.  I went off the BC pill about 1.5 years ago and my hair REALLY started falling out.  Now my ponytail is pitiful.  What is left on my head is dry and fine.  I have no doubt that you will be able to see through to my scalp in a few more months.  I am at wit's end as to why this happened.  Doctors don't seem to even listen to me once they rule out thyroid.  Can anyone give advice?  I heard about Minoxodyl but it seems you have to put on for a few hours twice a day and then wash out....forever.  I have a life!

I know this is an old thread but maybe you will get it. You said you had a wig you never take off. You have a whats called a hair system, right? You have to go back and get it maintain every 6 weeks or so. I was going to look into this too. Was it expensive? Does it look natural, is it comfortable, did you get used to it?

Hi, I'm not sure if you still receive these messages, but never too late to try...

In your profile you describe that you're a chemo nurse. Did you assist any radiation therapies during that period of time you lost hair? Could it be related to overexposures?

I am in the same boat.  I don't take any meds. and had to result to a wig.  I am still looking for answers.  Going back on 3/3/11 for some more test.  If I have any answers I'll let you know. I get the male balness thing from the doctor too.  I think it is either horomenes or a lack vitiams.  These doctors only look for an unlying medical problem.  It could be something simple.  The wig is great I never have to take it off, I wash and dry it while still on.  I can go swimming or jump for a plane and not loose it.  This was a hard ajustment but it's better than baldness.

Do you take any type of Beta Blocker for your palps? Metoprolol (Toprol) made my hair fall out BIG TIME. The hair loss is starting to slow now, 2 months after discontinuing the beta blocker....
